The Australia women's national basketball team, nicknamed the Opals after the brightly coloured gemstone common to the country, represents Australia in international basketball. From 1994 onwards, the Opals have been consistently competitive and successful having won nine medals at official FIBA international tournaments, highlighted by a gold medal winning performance at the 2006 World Championship in Brazil. At the now-defunct regional Oceania Championship for Women, the Opals won 15 titles. In 2017, FIBA combined its Oceanian and Asian zones for official senior competitions; following this change, the Opals compete in the FIBA Women's Asia Cup.
Jennifer Hazel (Jenny) Whittle is a retired Australian women's basketball player. Whittle was a regular member of the national team for over a decade, from 1994 until 2006. Playing Centre, Whittle was a key contributor to the Opals' success at international events during the 1990s and 2000s, with strong rebounding and defence a feature of her game. Following an outstanding national and WNBL career, Whittle was elected to the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
Rebecca Joy Cole is an Australian professional basketball player for the Waverley Falcons of the NBL1 South. She is a two-time champion with the Southside Flyers of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and has been a member of the Australian Opals.
Karin Maar-Fields-McRobert is a former Australian women's basketball player. McRobert represented the Australian women's national basketball team from 1975 to 1985.

Natalie Burton is an Australian basketball player and coach. She played college basketball in the United States for the West Virginia Mountaineers before beginning her career in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in 2012. She played seven seasons in the WNBL and played in Germany and France in 2018 and 2019. In the NBL1 West, Burton has played for the Perry Lakes Hawks and Warwick Senators. She is a four-time NBL1 West champion, three with the Hawks and one with the Senators (2022). She helped the Senators win the NBL1 National championship in 2022 as well. She served as an assistant coach with the Perth Lynx in the WNBL between 2021 and 2024.
Vicki Daldy is a retired Australian women's basketball player, who represented the country at both junior and senior levels. Her married name is Vicki Valk.
Renae Lisa Camino is an Australian women's basketball player, who has represented the country at both junior and senior levels. In 2014, Camino married her long-time partner Tom Garlepp.
Katie-Rae Ebzery is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She was a three-time All-WNBL First Team member and a two-time Olympian with the Australian Opals.
Alanna Smith is an Australian professional basketball player for the Minnesota Lynx of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and for the Shandong Six Stars of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA). She played college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal.
Anneli Maley is an Australian professional basketball player for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She is also contracted with the Perth Redbacks of the NBL1 West. She made her WNBL debut in 2016 and then spent two seasons in the United States playing college basketball for the Oregon Ducks and TCU Horned Frogs. With the Bendigo Spirit in 2022, she was named the WNBL Most Valuable Player.

Steve Breheny is an Australian basketball player and coach. He played eight years in the National Basketball League (NBL) for the Coburg Giants, the Geelong Cats and the St. Kilda Saints. At international level, he played for Australia at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1982 FIBA World Championship. After retiring, Breheny coached at NBL level for the Canberra Cannons and the Geelong Supercats. He also led Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) teams Coburg Cougars and Adelaide Lightning.
