Jan Vonka (born May 17, 1963 in Slaný) is a Czech auto racing driver and team owner.

Career

Vonka originally competed in rallying in the early 1980s, before moving on to hillclimbing. [1] In 1999 he won the Czech Circuit Racing Championship with his Vonka Racing team. [2]

Vonka began competing in the N-GT class of the FIA GT Championship in 2002. [2] He began competing more regularly in FIA GT in 2004, when he finished ninth overall in class, improving to finish sixth overall in class in 2005. [2] In 2006, Vonka competed at the 12 Hours of Sebring. [2] He also raced for Wiechers-Sport at the FIA WTCC Race of the Czech Republic. [2]

FIA GT Championship auto racing championship in Europe

The FIA GT Championship was a sports car racing series organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) at the behest of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship was mostly concentrated in Europe, but throughout the years has visited other continents including Asia and South America. At the end of 2009, the championship was replaced by the FIA GT1 World Championship, which morphed into the FIA GT Series for 2013.

The event is the second round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and in the past has been a round of the now defunct World Sportscar Championship, IMSA GT Championship and American Le Mans Series. In 2012, the race was the opening event of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Wiechers-Sport is a German auto racing team which is based in Nienburg. The team was first established in 1999, competing in German touring cars. The team currently competes in the World Touring Car Championship.
