The Royal Ranger Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Malaysian Army. Although it is second in seniority to the Royal Malay Regiment, the RRD can trace its origins back to the mid 19th century and the establishment of The Sarawak Rangers, the peacekeeping force in the Sarawak region. This force was absorbed by the Sarawak Constabulary in 1932, but the name was revived in 1941 as a British Colonial unit; this unit commanded by British Lieutenant Colonel C.M. Lane was captured by the Japanese in 1942.

The general word for ghost is hantu, of which there exist a wide variety. Some ghost concepts such as the female vampires pontianak and penanggal are shared throughout the region. While traditional belief does not consider all ghosts as necessarily evil, Malaysian popular culture tends to categorise them all as types of evil djinn.

Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme is a 2012 horror comedy film co-produced and directed by Joyce Bernal and is the second installment in the Kimmy Dora film series. It is a sequel to the 2009 film Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme. It tells the story of twin sisters Kimmy and Dora, both played by Eugene Domingo in their quest to find love in South Korea, only for them being stalked by a ghostly figure. The film premiered nationwide in the Philippines on June 13, 2012, and became the second highest grossing Filipino film of 2012, earning ₱100 million in two weeks, and currently holds the fifteenth place in the highest-grossing Filipino films of all time.
Konsert Lentera Timur was a concert residency by Malaysian recording artist, Siti Nurhaliza. Held on four non consecutive nights in September 2013 at Istana Budaya, this was her first concert in which the songs performed were mainly driven by traditional Malay and folk music genres. Many of the songs were taken or derived from her four solo traditional albums: Cindai (1997), Sahmura (2000), Sanggar Mustika (2002) and Lentera Timur (2008). During the course of the four-night concert, she performed more than 30 songs and was backed by 40-piece traditional Malaysian orchestra, Orkestra Traditional Malaysia (OTM). The musical backing included an amalgamation of sounds from different traditional musical instruments, including strings and percussion that are synonymous with Malaysia's multiracial culture – Rebana, Er-hu, Sitar and Sapeh.
The Journey is a 2014 Malaysian Chinese-language comedy-drama film directed by Chiu Keng Guan and written by Ryon Lee. The film stars Ben Andrew Pfeiffer, Lee Sai Peng and Joanne Yew Hong Im. The story follows a father that finally allows his daughter to wed an English lad with a condition that he shall follow him on a journey around the nation to deliver their wedding invitation. It was his ninth film as well as his second horror film after Khurafat (2011) and also the first film in a planned Munafik trilogy. It stars Syamsul himself, Fizz Fairuz, Pekin Ibrahim and Nabila Huda. The film depicts Adam, a Muslim medical practitioner who is unable to continue with his job and accept the reality of his wife's death. After he meets Maria, unsettling things start to happen.
Lee Chong Wei is a 2018 Malaysian biographical sports drama film directed by Teng Bee, about the story of national icon Lee Chong Wei, who rose from poverty to become the top badminton player in the world. The film is based on Lee's 2012 autobiography Dare to Be a Champion. The film stars in the title role for two newcomers, namely 22-year-old Tosh Chan and 13-year-old Jake Eng, who were picked from more than 2,000 auditioned hopefuls.
