Nursing homes provide residential care for elderly or disabled people. Nursing homes may also be referred to as old people's homes, care homes, rest homes, convalescent homes, convalescent care, skilled nursing or long-term facilities. Often, these terms have slightly different meanings to indicate whether the institutions are public or private, and whether they provide mostly assisted living, or nursing care and emergency medical care. Nursing homes are used by people who do not need to be in a hospital, but cannot be cared for at home. The nursing home facility nurses have the responsibilities of caring for the patients' medical needs and also the responsibility of being in charge of other employees, depending on their ranks. Most nursing homes have nursing aides and skilled nurses on hand 24 hours a day.
An assisted living residence or assisted living facility (ALF) is a housing facility for people with disabilities or for adults who cannot or who choose not to live independently. The term is popular in the United States, but the setting is similar to a retirement home, in the sense that facilities provide a group living environment and typically cater to an older adult population. There is also Caribbean assisted living, which offers a similar service in a resort-like environment.

It also owns The Huntercombe Group, a provider of inpatient mental healthcare and brain injury rehabilitation as well as care home operator, brighterkind. Four Seasons, as it is today, was created both organically and by the buying out of smaller chains of care homes and rebranding them, as evidenced by the takeovers of Tamaris and Bettercare and it was the second largest care home operator in the UK.
Garden Spot Village is a licensed, non-profit, faith-based continuing care retirement community in New Holland, Pennsylvania. The facility is operated by Garden Spot Communities, Inc., a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, and it provides residential and health-care services for adults ages 55 and above. It employs about 500 staff members, including hospitality, maintenance, administrative and skilled nursing staff.

A health facility is, in general, any location where healthcare is provided. Health facilities range from small clinics and doctor's offices to urgent care centers and large hospitals with elaborate emergency rooms and trauma centers. The number and quality of health facilities in a country or region is one common measure of that area's prosperity and quality of life. In many countries, health facilities are regulated to some extent by law; licensing by a regulatory agency is often required before a facility may open for business. Health facilities may be owned and operated by for-profit businesses, non-profit organizations, governments, and in some cases by individuals, with proportions varying by country. HC-One is a British healthcare management company. The name stands for Health and Care. It is Britain's largest care home operator. HC-One operates 329 care homes throughout the UK specialising in dementia, nursing, residential and specialist care for elderly people.

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety is a royal commission established on 8 October 2018 by the Australian government pursuant to the Royal Commissions Act 1902. The Honourable Richard Tracey and Ms Lynelle Briggs were appointed as Royal Commissioners. The Commissioners are required to provide an interim report by 31 October 2019, and a final report by 30 April 2020. Tracey died of cancer in October 2019 and was replaced by Tony Pagone.
The Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is a long-term care center and nursing home in Haskell, New Jersey. It is a for-profit center that provides treatment to children who are medically fragile or are receiving palliative care. As of October 2018, it had 92 pediatric long-term care beds and 135 for elderly residents, also operating as a long-term nursing home and a rehabilitation center. In July 2019, it was sold and renamed the North Jersey Pediatric and Adult Nursing and Wellness Center.
Eatonville Care Centre is a privately-owned long-term care facility in the Eatonville area of central Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As of 2020, it is owned by Rykka Care Centres. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it was particularly hard-hit, with 142 resident cases and 40 resident deaths. A report by the Canadian Armed Forces — who had been deployed to the facility, to assist — recorded "aggressive behaviour" by staff and drugging of residents that the Forces deemed unnecessary.
