Jasmine Dellal is a British-born film director and producer.
Jasmine Dellal was an independent film director and producer whose feature documentaries showed in cinemas, festivals and TV around the world. Her last film was in 2008, before stopping to raise a family.
Dellal is the daughter of the Iraqi-Jewish property magnate Jack Dellal. She grew up in Great Britain, studied at Oxford, then in the United States and still spends much time in South India where her grandparents lived near Arunachala mountain in Tiruvannamalai. She read Modern Languages at Oxford University (French and Spanish, Balliol College). [1] Dellal met her mentor, the filmmaker Marlon Riggs [2] while doing a Masters at the University of California at Berkeley.
In the 1990s, while based in San Francisco, Dellal founded Little Dust Productions, to make documentaries and artistic films with a social conscience. She has since moved to New York and London. She is particularly recognized for her work with Roma ("Gypsy" people). [3]

Tideland is a 2005 fantasy film co-written and directed by Terry Gilliam, following the story of Jeliza-Rose, a young child who struggles to make sense of life in isolation as she lives with an eccentric adult brother and sister in rural Texas after the death of her drug-addicted, abusive parents. It is an adaptation of Mitch Cullin's novel of the same name. The film was shot in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and the surrounding area in late 2004. The world premiere was at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival where the film received a mixed response from both viewers and critics. After little interest from U.S. distributors, THINKFilm picked the film up for a U.S. release date in October 2006. Despite the film's eclectic and unconventional themes, which included child abuse, decomposition, incest, flatulence, mental illnesses and heroin usage, Tideland featured a number of notable actors, including Jennifer Tilly, Jeff Bridges, and Janet McTeer.

She is known as the first out black lesbian to ever direct a feature film with her 1996 film The Watermelon Woman. She runs the production company Jingletown Films based in Oakland, California.
Stranger Inside is a made-for-television crime drama film directed by Cheryl Dunye that premiered on cable television in 2001. The story primarily concerns African-American lesbians in prison. Michael Stipe, the lead singer of R.E.M., helped to produce it. In a 2004 issue of Feminist Studies, Dunye stated that she worked with actual female inmates to produce the script.
