Jason Johnson Jr. (born June 1, 2001) [1] is an American professional football linebacker who is a free agent. He played college football at Eastern Illinois and UCF.
Johnson attended high school at Rich Central. Coming out of high school, Johnson decided to commit to play college football for the Eastern Illinois Panthers. [2] [3]
In the 2021 season, Johnson would lead the Ohio Valley Conference in tackles with 112. [4] Johnson finished his career at Eastern Illinois with 235 tackles and two and a half sacks. [5]
Johnson decided to transfer to play for the UCF Knights to continue his collegiate football career. [6] [7] In week two of the 2022 season, Johnson tallied 12 tackles in a 20-14 loss versus Louisville. [8] Johnson finished the 2022 season with 126 tackles with four being for a loss, one sack, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. [9] For his performance in the 2022 season, Johnson earned first-team all-American honors. [10] Johnson decided to return to UCF for the 2023 season as a fifth-year senior. [11] In week 12 of the 2023 season, Johnson notched six tackles, a sack, and he deflected a pass that was intercepted, as he helped UCF dominate Oklahoma State 45-3. [12] In Johnson's final season in 2023 he tallied 114 tackles with six and a half going for a loss, three sacks, two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery. [13] Johnson was invited to play in the 2024 Hula Bowl, in which he was named the game's Defensive MVP. [14] [15]

Johnson signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2024. [18] He was waived on August 26. [19]
The Hula Bowl is a post-season college football all-star game held annually, usually in January. From inception through the 2021 playing, it was held in Hawaii; since the 2022 edition, it has been played in Orlando, Florida.
The 1998 UCF Golden Knights football season was the twentieth season overall for the team, and third season as an NCAA Division I-A Independent. After the resignation of Gene McDowell, Mike Kruczek became the new head coach of the Golden Knights. Kruczek led UCF to a 9–2 record in 1998, the program's best season at the time. Quarterback Daunte Culpepper finished 6th in the Heisman Trophy voting and set a then-NCAA record for completion percentage (73.4%). UCF received a tentative verbal agreement to play in the Oahu Bowl. However, the arrangement fell through in the final week of the season.
Deron Mayo is an American football coach and former linebacker who is the head strength and conditioning coach for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Old Dominion University. He signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2011. Mayo also played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Shaquil Akeem Barrett is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Nebraska–Omaha Mavericks before transferring to the Colorado State Rams. Barrett was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent after the 2014 NFL draft. After five seasons with the Broncos, including winning Super Bowl 50, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Barrett's level of play increased, making the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams in 2019 after leading the league in sacks, and in 2021 won Super Bowl LV, recording a sack in the game. He signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2024 before retiring from football shortly after.

The 2022 Hula Bowl was a postseason college football all-star game played on January 15, 2022, with kickoff at 12:00 noon EST, at the Bounce House in Orlando, Florida. It was the first all-star contest of the 2021–22 bowl games and, while not restricted to FBS players, one of the final games of the 2021 FBS football season. Television coverage was provided by CBS Sports Network. This was the first playing of the Hula Bowl outside of Hawaii, due to Aloha Stadium near Honolulu being closed for renovations. The game rostered players into Aina and Kai teams, the words for land and sea in the Hawaiian language.
The 2022 UCF Knights football team represented the University of Central Florida (UCF) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Knights were led by second-year head coach Gus Malzahn and played their home games at the newly named FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Florida. They competed as members of the American Athletic Conference.
