It is the most populous city in and seat of Dallas County with portions extending into Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. With a 2020 census population of 1,304,379, it is the ninth-most populous city in the U.S. and the third-most populous city in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. Located in the North Texas region, the city of Dallas is the main core of the largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States and the largest inland metropolitan area in the U.S. that lacks any navigable link to the sea.
J. D. Tippit was an American World War II U.S. Army veteran and police officer who served as an 11-year veteran with the Dallas Police Department. About 45 minutes after the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, Tippit was shot and killed in a residential neighborhood in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Texas, allegedly by Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was initially arrested for the murder of Tippit and was subsequently charged for killing Kennedy. Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner, two days later.

The house at 1026 N. Beckley Avenue in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Texas was the temporary residence of Lee Harvey Oswald at the time of the assassination of United States President John F. Kennedy. Oswald rented a room at this house for $8 a week, beginning October 14, 1963, under the name O.H. Lee. The building is located approximately 2 miles from the Texas School Book Depository, where Oswald began working on October 16.
Kiest Park is a 263-acre (106 ha) park in southern Dallas, Texas, United States, established in 1931 by Edwin John Kiest, publisher of the Dallas Times Herald and a member of the Dallas Park Board in the 1930s who donated the land for the park. Named in memory of Kiest's late wife, artist Elizabeth Patterson Kiest, it is the largest City of Dallas Park in Oak Cliff and features hike-and-bike trails, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, picnic tables and several Works Progress Administration-era structures, including stone gates at three entrances to the park, a stone picnic shelter and a stone field house. The WPA also built a formal garden at the heart of Kiest Park. A pergola was built at the head of the garden in 1934 with WPA funds but fell into ruin and was cleared away. The nonprofit organization Friends of Oak Cliff Parks restored the historic garden and the City of Dallas rebuilt the pergola in 2014 based on the original plans, using $2 million in bond funds.
Carlos Donjuan is a Mexican American graffiti artist, painter, and art teacher at University of Texas at Arlington from Oak Cliff, Dallas. He is a part of the Oak Cliff artist collective known as Sour Grapes, which was formed in 2000 with his brothers Arturo and Miguel Donjuan. Donjuan is influenced by hip hop culture, lowrider culture, West Coast graffiti artists, Mexican and Indigenous American folk art. Donjuan's art has been shown internationally and is included in the Chicano art collection of Cheech Marin.
The Dallas Mexican American Historical League (DMAHL) is a non-profit organization based in Dallas, Texas which aims to document the history of Mexican Americans in the city while providing education on the experiences and contributions of Mexican Americans in Dallas, Texas. The organization was founded in March 2008, and became an official tax-exempt non-profit organization on June 30, 2013. DMAHL has over 150 members in Texas, with a Board of Directors consisting of 18 members.
