State Route 83 (SR 83) is an 86.5-mile-long (139.2 km) state highway that travels southwest to northeast, with a southeast–to–northwest section, within portions of Monroe, Jasper, Morgan, and Walton counties in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Monticello purchased and renovated the Benton Supply Department Store (1903) for its City Hall and uses its sales room as Monticello's Visitor Center. Monticello Crossroads Scenic Byway is a 29.0-mile-long (46.7 km) scenic route located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels through pine forests and hilly agricultural land in Jasper County. It includes sections of State Route 11 (SR 11) and SR 83 north from Monticello. The routes were used by Native Americans and evangelist Methodist circuit riders. The byway passes through the Monticello Historic District and travels past several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
Robert Wilson was an American professional football player who was a wide receiver for five seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. He played college football at Florida A&M University and attended Jefferson County High School in Monticello, Florida. He was released by the Saints on September 1, 2002.
