Marion County is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Marion County is in the Central time zone, while Chattanooga proper is in the Eastern time zone.

It is generally bounded by College Street, Eatonton Street, Forsyth Street, Hillsboro Street, Washington Street, Funderburg Drive, and Madison Drive. It includes Monticello's town square area. Monticello purchased and renovated the Benton Supply Department Store (1903) for its City Hall and uses its sales room as Monticello's Visitor Center. Heritage tourism is promoted through membership in Georgia's Historic Heartland Travel Association and a historic preservation ordinance was passed in 1988 and is overseen by the Monticello Historic Preservation Commission. The central commercial area and neighboring residential areas include Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Second Empire, Colonial, Neoclassical, English Tudor, and Craftsman architecture.
Monticello Crossroads Scenic Byway is a 29.0-mile-long (46.7 km) scenic route located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels through pine forests and hilly agricultural land in Jasper County. It includes sections of State Route 11 (SR 11) and SR 83 north from Monticello. The routes were used by Native Americans and evangelist Methodist circuit riders. The byway passes through the Monticello Historic District and travels past several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
