Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawwad was the ninth of the Twelve Imams after his father Ali al-Ridha and before his son Ali al-Hadi. He was known as al-Jawād and al-Taqī, but also called Abu Jaʿfar al-Ṯāni, Ibn al-Ridha.
