Jawahar Prasad is an Indian politician and a former Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from Sasaram Assembly constituency. Prasad is a five term Member of Legislative Assembly from Sasaram;he was elected as a candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party. Prasad has also been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in early part of his life. He became an active member of Sangh in 1989,and in 1990 election to Bihar Assembly,he was elected for the first time. [2] [3]
In 1990 Bihar Assembly elections,Prasad defeated Bipin Bihari Sinha. He secured 42,956 votes in his favour compared to 24,261 votes in favour of Sinha. [4]
Prasad was arrested in April 2023,by Bihar police on the charges of inciting the violence against Muslims in Sasaram during the Ram Navami procession. According to news reports,he was one of the leader,who was leading the procession in the Muslim dominated region. Latter,he allegedly provoked the masses for pelting stones,which resulted in communal strife. [5] [6] [7] It was reported that,in this incident,many regions like Sahajlal Peer colony and Qadirganj of Sasaram witnessed communal tensions. The rioters burnt many houses of the local Muslim inhabitants and destroyed private as well as public property. [8] In response to arrest of Prasad over allegations of inciting violence,Nikhil Anand,president of Other Backward Class wing of Bharatiya Janata Party denounced the claims of Bihar police and administration of Prasad being the culprit in Ram Navami violence. Condemning the arrest of Prasad on allegations of spreading communal violence,Bhartiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that Nitish Kumar's government arrested Prasad,as he was a popular leader from Koeri caste in Sasaram Assembly constituency and since the people belonging to his caste group have shifted their loyalty to Bhartiya Janata Party,administration of Kumar is targeting him on caste grounds. Brij Behari Prasad,also spelled Brij Bihari Prasad was an Indian politician. A member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD),he had become Minister for Science and Technology in the state of Bihar,where he represented the RJD. He had been arrested for alleged involvement in corrupt admissions to technical institutes and was murdered on 13 June 1998 while being treated at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna,where he was undergoing treatment while in custody. It was claimed that his death was in retribution for those of Chhottan Shukla and five other people,who had been killed on 4 December 1994 when on their way home from campaigning for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections that were to take place in 1995. Shukla was a gangster from the Bhumihar community,whereas Prasad was a Bania. Supporters of Prasad were thought to have been responsible for the killing of Shukla.

Samrat Choudhary alias Rakesh Kumar is an Indian politician and Member of Bihar Legislative Council from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chaudhary has been a former Vice President of BJP for the state of Bihar and currently elected for the second term as MLC in 2020 after his first term ended in 2019. In 2014 Samrat planned a split in Rashtriya Janata Dal by defecting thirteen MLAs as splinter group of the party. He later joined BJP. In 2022,he was selected as the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Council.

The Luv-Kush equation is a political term used in the context of the politics of Bihar,to denote the alliance of the agricultural Kurmi and the Koeri caste,which together constitutes approximately 15% of the state's population. The alliance of these two caste groups has remained the support base of Nitish Kumar,as against the MY equation of Lalu Prasad Yadav,which constitutes Muslims and the Yadavs. Caste consciousness and the quest for political representation largely drive the politics of Bihar. The political alliance of the Koeri and the Kurmi castes,termed the "Luv-Kush equation" was formed when a massive Kurmi Chetna Rally was organised by members of the Kurmi community in 1994 against the alleged casteist politics of Lalu Yadav,who was blamed by contemporary community leaders for promoting Yadavs in politics and administration.
Rama Navami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birthday of Hindu deity Rama. It falls on the 9th day of the Chaitra month every year in the Hindu calendar,usually during the months of March–April. At least since 1979,if not earlier,This festival often involves processions of Hindu worshipers through cities,including Muslim-majority regions. These displays,often considered provocative,have repeatedly led to violence between Hindu and Muslim communities. Scholar Paul Brass states that Rama himself has been turned into a political emblem of the RSS family of organisations,and the Rama Navami processions are "led by or turned into provocative displays" by Hindutva organisations such as the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.
Kushwaha is a surname used by people of Koeri caste in Bihar. The Kushwahas are also known as Maurya,Shakya,Saini in various parts of north India. As per one opinion,the Kushwaha surname is also common among members of Kachhi caste,who later merged with the Koeris to become a single homogeneous community. They are a dominant OBC community,who comprise about 9% of the population of state of Bihar.

He was a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal,and was able to win from this constituency in 2000 Bihar assembly elections as well as 2015 Bihar assembly elections. Kumar shifted his allegiance to Janata Dal (United) (JDU) in 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections and was made a candidate of JDU from Sasaram constituency against Rajesh Kumar Gupta of Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was defeated in the polls of 2020. In 2015 assembly elections,Kumar had defeated Jawahar Prasad of Bhartiya Janata Party;latter was a five term Member of Legislative Assembly from the Sasaram constituency.
