AliphCom, Inc. (doing business as Aliph, Jawbone) was an American technology company based in San Francisco. It made consumer products including fitness tracker Jawbone.

The company was liquidated in July 2017 and co-founder Hosain Rahman moved to health products with Jawbone Health Hub.

History

AliphCom was founded by Alexander Asseily and Hosain Rahman in 1999. [1] With Lawrence Livermore Labs, Aliph researched noise suppression with grants from the United States Navy and DARPA in 2002. [2] [3] Aliph released noise cancellation headset Jawbone in November 2004. [4] Bluetooth based headset were released in 2007. [5] Another headset Icon was released in 2010. [6] Wireless speaker Jambox and Fitness tracker UP were introduced in 2011. [7] [8] [9] Headset ERA was released in January 2014. [10] The company was liquidated in July 2017 and co-founder Hosain Rahman moved to health products with Jawbone Health Hub. [11] [12] [13] Jawbone's fitness tracker were removed from shops in 2018. [14] Aliph Brands holds the license to Jawbone products and others. [15] Jawbone patents were used to sue technology companies like Samsung in 2021. [16]

It allowed the rapid short-range exchange of web bookmarks, contact info, directions, YouTube videos, and other data. Android Beam was introduced in 2011 with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. This was improved after Google acquired Bump. By 2017, ComputerWorld included Android Beam in a list of "once-trumpeted features that quietly faded away", observing that "despite the admirable marketing effort, Beam never quite worked particularly well, and numerous other systems for sharing stuff proved to be simpler and more reliable."

Oura Health Oy is a Finnish health technology company, known for the Oura Ring, a smart ring used to track sleep and physical activity. The company was founded in 2013 by Petteri Lahtela, Kari Kivelä, and Markku Koskela. The original founders left the company after Harpreet Singh Rai took over became the CEO from 2018 until 2021, he was fired and replaced by Michael Chapp. In 2022, Tom Hale was appointed CEO. The company is headquartered in Oulu, Finland, with other locations in Helsinki, Finland, and San Francisco, United States. The company raised its initial US$2.3 million seed funding in 2015 led by Lifeline Ventures, introduced the first-generation ring via Kickstarter in 2016 and launched the ring at the Slush tech conference in 2017.
