Major General Jayantha de S. Jayaratne, VSV was a Sri Lanka Army general, who was the former Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF HQ (J)).
Educated at Royal College, Colombo, he joined the Ceylon Army and received his basic officer training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst where he was awarded the Overseas officers Cane in 1956 for the Overseas Officer Cadet obtaining the highest place in the Order of Merit of Passing Out. On his return to Ceylon he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 4th Field Regiment, Ceylon Artillery. He was the first Sri Lankan officer to become qualified as an Instructor in Gunnery (IG). [1] In 1963, he was transferred to the newly formed 4th Field Regiment following the attempted military coup. He served as the commanding officer of the 4th Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery from February 1981 to January 1982. [2] He served as Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) from 1987 to 1988.
Major General Jayaratne was a graduate of the National Defence College, India gaining the ndc qualification. He was awarded the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV) in 1987 and died in 1988. [3]
Lieutenant General Denzil Lakshman Kobbekaduwa, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP was a senior Sri Lankan Army officer who served in the 1971 Insurrection and the Sri Lankan Civil War.
The Sri Lanka Army is the oldest and largest of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces. The Corp of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) is a combat support arm of the Sri Lanka Army which provides military engineering. It is made up of ten regular regiments and one volunteer regiment. Headquartered at Panagoda Cantonment, it is headed by the Centre Commandant.

Major General Janaka Perera, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, VSP was a Sri Lankan General and politician. He served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and is considered one of the most distinguished generals in Sri Lankan history. After retiring from the army he served as a Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to Indonesia. He was the opposition leader of the North Central Provincial Council until he and his wife were killed on 6 October 2008 by a suicide bomber. The LTTE have been blamed for the bombing by Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
General Tissa Indraka Weeratunga, VSV was a Sri Lankan general. He was the Commander of the Sri Lankan Army from 1981 to 1985 and the first General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Joint Operations Headquarters (JOH), he was later Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Canada from 1986 till 1990.
Major General Sarath Munasinghe, was a senior Sri Lanka Army officer and politician. He had served Commander Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna and following his retirement, went on to be elected as Member of Parliament of Kurunegala District and Deputy speaker and chairman of committees of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) is a regional command of the Sri Lanka Army, that is responsible for the operational deployment and command all army units stationed in and around the Jaffna Peninsula in the Northern Province.

General Lionel Piyananda Balagalle,, was a senior Sri Lanka Army officer, who served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and the Chief of the Defence Staff. He is known for formalising military intelligence operations within the Sri Lanka Army, having founded the Directorate of Military Intelligence and the Military Intelligence Corps.
General Chandrika Srilal Weerasooriya or 'C.S. Weerasooriya', RWP, RSP, VSV, USP is a retired Sri Lankan Army General. He was the 15th Commander of the Sri Lankan Army (1998-2000) and a former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan (2000-2007)
