Jean-Amand Lamaze

Jean-Amand Lamaze (1833 - 9 September 1906) was a French clergyman and bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga. He was born in Saint-Michel-sur-Meurthe and came to Australia in 1864. [1] He then worked as a missionary in Tonga for 15 years, before being appointed bishop in 1879. [2] He died in 1906 and was buried in Maufaga. [3]

‘Apifo’ou College is a co-educational secondary school located at Ma’ufanga on the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga. It is the largest and oldest Catholic secondary school in Tonga. It is owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga and Niue, and is run by priests of the Society of Mary.
