He has collaborated with director Bouli Lanners in The Giants (2011), Eldorado (2008) and Ultranova (2005). For his work in The Giants he received the Magritte Award for Best Cinematography. He was also nominated twice for the Joseph Plateau Award for Best Cinematography for Bunker Paradise (2005) and Ultranova (2005). He has 1 Daughter named Raphaël Massy.

Ridicule is a 1996 French period drama film directed by Patrice Leconte and starring Charles Berling, Jean Rochefort, Fanny Ardant and Judith Godrèche. Set in the 18th century at the decadent court of Versailles, where social status can rise and fall based on one's ability to mete out witty insults and avoid ridicule oneself, the film's plot examines the social injustices of late 18th-century France, in showing the corruption and callousness of the aristocrats. Ridicule was selected as France's submission and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 69th Academy Awards.

He was assistant cameraman on Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (1986) and became director of photography on feature films in the early 1990s. He was nominated for the César Award for Best Cinematography in 1998 for Artemisia. During the 2000s, he worked more and more for English-speaking movies. He won the Special Jury Prize at the International Film Festival Chicago 2001 for What Time Is It There? and the AFI Award for Best Cinematography in 2005 for The Proposition.

Fort Saganne is a 1984 French war film directed by Alain Corneau and starring Gérard Depardieu, Philippe Noiret, Catherine Deneuve, and Sophie Marceau. Later, while on a diplomatic mission to Paris, he has a brief affair with a journalist. Returning to Africa, he leads a gallant defense against a feared sultan and is awarded the Legion of Honour medal. He returns to his home a national hero and marries the young girl he has not forgotten, but their happiness is interrupted by the onset of World War I.
