Jeff Coody (born September 13,1960) is an American politician who served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives for the 63rd district from 2014 to 2018. [1] [2]
After assuming office,Coody sponsored HB2040,"Oklahoma Safe Schools Act," passed both the House and the Senate, was signed by Governor Fallin and became effective on May 12,2015. The Oklahoma Rifle Association honored Coody as "2015 Representative of the Year" at the 2015 ORA convention in Midwest City. [3]
Coody authored a bill to nullify the state's requirements for registration of handguns, claiming that citizens already had a constitutional right to open carry guns. It was an uphill fight that ultimately resulted in passing the so-called "Constitutional Carry Bill" that would allow anyone in the state to carry a gun without a license, provided that person was over 21 years old and had no felony conviction. It would also eliminate the requirement for background checks. The law was passed by the House on April 25,2018. [4]
In 2018,he strongly opposed a bill in the state house that would raise the pay for state school teachers, and he angered many voters (especially students, parents and teachers) by saying the teachers were engaged in extortion by calling for a walkout to display their unhappiness with low salaries for Oklahoma educators. The walkout failed to sway enough Republican legislators to increase the education budget for the first time in a decade. [5]

In the United States, the term constitutional carry, also called permitless carry, unrestricted carry,or Vermont carry, refers to the legal public carrying of a handgun, either openly or concealed, without a license or permit. The phrase does not typically refer to the unrestricted carrying of a long gun,a knife,or other weapons. The scope and applicability of constitutional carry may vary by state.
The Constitution of the United States provides several basic requirements for eligibility to be elected to the office of President. Individual states did not introduce significant relevant legislation until the 2008 election of Barack Obama, when a controversy known as the birther movement was promoted by various conspiracy theorists. The "birthers" asserted during the 2008 presidential election campaign that Obama was not a natural-born U.S. citizen,as mandated by the Constitution, and thus was ineligible to be President of the United States, prompting several state legislatures to consider legislation aimed at requiring future presidential candidates to provide proof of citizenship by birth before being granted ballot access in their state. None of these efforts led to the passage of currently active laws.

The 2018 Oklahoma teachers' walkout began on April 2,2018,with teachers across the state walking out to protest low pay, overcrowded classrooms, and tax cuts that resulted in lower state-wide education spending. It was the first such action in Oklahoma since 1990. The OEA declared an end to the walkout on April 12 after an agreement to increase salaries and state funding for education was reached. The call to end the walkout faced some objection from teachers and parents who did not believe that enough concessions were made by lawmakers.

A series of Oregon Republican State Senator walkouts began in May 2019 when Republican members of the Oregon State Senate refused to attend floor sessions of the Oregon Senate in an effort to stymie Democratic efforts to pass House Bill 3427. Proposed during the 80th Oregon Legislative Assembly, the bill would have provided $2 billion for K-12 schools through a new tax package. The senators eventually returned after reaching a deal with Oregon Senate Democrats and Oregon Governor Kate Brown, but elected to "vanish" the following month over another bill,House Bill 2020.
