Early life

Grob was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He first heard rock and roll music on the radio while in the car, and began playing the drums. [2] Grob started playing the drums in bands as a teenager, playing three nights a week by the time he was fifteen years old. [3]

Career

Grob met bassist Pieter Sweval after his psychology teacher told him about another local band. [3] [4] In 1969, they joined Looking Glass with Elliot Lurie and Larry Gronsky. [5] In August 1972, their first single, "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)", went to number one in the US for one week. [5]

In 1975, after Lurie and Gronsky left, Jeff and Pieter formed Starz, an early heavy metal group who were under the same management as KISS. [3] Grob began using the name "Joe X. Dube" while in Starz. [3] From 1975 to 1979, Starz released four studio albums and toured with many big name artist. Grob disbanded Starz in 1979 and moved back to New Jersey from Hollywood, quitting music altogether.

Grob returned to music in the late 1990s, performing music for children at churches and in 2003 reformed Starz.

Personal life

After he ended Starz in 1979, he took a job as a construction worker and in 1982 went to Union County College to get a degree in landscape architecture. [3] [4] After graduating summa cum laude in 1985, [4] he was hired at a landscape company that he has worked at now for over 35 years. [6] [3] He still lives in New Brunswick. [4]
