Jen Atkin (born March 10, 1980) is an American hairstylist, entrepreneur and columnist. [1] [2] Atkin co-owns the haircare line OUAI with Lamees Hamdan. [3]
She has worked with celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi, Bella Hadid, and the Kardashian-Jenner family. [4] [5] [6] [7]
Atkin moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19 to pursue a career in hairstyling with $300 to her name. [8] After she moved to Los Angeles, Lorraine Schwartz assisted Atkin in her early years. [4] In 2000, she began working as a receptionist at Estilo Salon in West Hollywood. [1] Later, Atkin worked at the Chris McMillan and Andy LeCompte salons in Hollywood. [9] In 2006, Atkin started working for the hair team of Madonna during the singer's Confessions Tour, and as a personal hairstylist for fashion designer John Galliano. [2]
In 2010, Atkin began working with Kim Kardashian on a shoot for Cosmopolitan , this is where Atkin first met the sister of Kim, Khloe Kardashian. She began working for the Kardashian family after becoming the hairstylist for Khloe during her time on the TV show, The X Factor . Since 2012, Atkin has traveled regularly to the Middle East, cutting hair at salons in Dubai, Bahrain, and Qatar. [9] She has stated that her motivation for working in this region is that "there are not a lot of trained stylists in the Middle East who know how to do modern curls, or know how to really cut thick, coarse hair in a way that grows out nicely." Atkin is known to work in Los Angeles at Andy LeCompte Salon, where appointments cost upwards of $600. She released a hair accessories collection called Jen Atkin X Chloe + Isabel, which is no longer in production. [8]
Her first book, Blowing My Way to the Top, was published by Harper Collins in December 2020. [11]
Atkin was born in Ecuador and spent her childhood between the North Shore of Oahu and St. George, Utah. She was raised Mormon. [6] At the age of 19, she moved to Los Angeles. [8]
