Career

Atkin moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19 to pursue a career in hairstyling with $300. [8] After she moved to Los Angeles, Lorraine Schwartz assisted Atkin in her early years. [4] In 2000, she began working as a receptionist at Estilo Salon in West Hollywood. [1] Later, Atkin worked at the Chris McMillan and Andy LeCompte salons in Hollywood. [9] In 2006, Atkin started working for the hair team of Madonna during the singer's Confessions Tour, and as a personal hairstylist for fashion designer John Galliano. [2]

Atkin began working with Kim Kardashian in 2010 on a shoot for Cosmopolitan , this is where Atkin first met the sister of Kim, Khloe Kardashian. She began work for the Kardashian family after becoming the hairstylist for Khloe during her time on the TV show, The X Factor . [9] [2] Atkin was further included on Kim Kardashian's video game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood . [10] She has collaborated with hairstylist and wigmaker Tokyo Stylez to create looks for Kylie Jenner.

Since 2012, Atkin has traveled regularly to the Middle East, cutting hair at salons in Dubai, Bahrain, and Qatar. [9] She has stated that her motivation for working in this region is that "there are not a lot of trained stylists in the Middle East who know how to do modern curls, or know how to really cut thick, coarse hair in a way that grows out nicely." [4] Atkin is known to work in Los Angeles at Andy Lecompton Salon, where appointments cost upwards of $600. [6] Atkin is active on the social media platform, Instagram, and has attributed her social media postings to scrapbooking during her childhood. She released a hair accessories collection called Jen Atkin X Chloe + Isabel, a line which is no longer in production. [8]

Her first book, Blowing My Way to the Top, was published by Harper Collins in December 2020. [11]

Personal life

Atkin was born in Ecuador and spent her childhood between the North Shore of Oahu and St. George, Utah. She was raised Mormon. [6] At the age of 19, she moved to Los Angeles.

Atkin married to Mike Rosenthal in 2016 at the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. She has two kids, one boy and one girl, who was named Sloane Soleil Rosenthal, and was born on March 31, 2022.
