Snyder was born in Vallejo, California, [4] educated at the University of Montana, [2] and served in the United States Navy. [2]

Poetry

Jeremy Snyder began writing poetry at age 5. [3] From 2018 through 2022, Snyder hosted a poetry open mic, Poetry by the Bay, at the downtown Oddfellows Hall and online. [6] [1] [4] Poetry by the Bay was founded in 2008 by Kyrah Ayers. [1] In 2023 Keith Thompson took over as show host, and the group now meets at the Mira Theatre. [7] Snyder was appointed Vallejo’s poet laureate in January 2020 and served until December 31, 2023. [8] [9] [10] In 2021 Snyder appeared on the Rooted in Poetry podcast, [11] [12] performed at a virtual benefit for the Solano County Library Foundation, [13] [14] [15] performed with his predecessors at Alibi Bookshop, [16] [9] [17] and with fellow San Francisco bay area poets laureate in Richmond, California. [18] [19] [20] He hosted National Poetry Month celebrations at the Solano County Library in 2022 [21] and Alibi Bookshop in 2023. [22] Two women, Kathleen Herrmann and Jacalyn Eyvonne, were chosen as his successors, and he was preceded in office by D.L. Lang and Dr. Genea Brice. [23] [24] [25]

Armijo High School is a public secondary school located in Fairfield, California, United States. It is the oldest of the three high schools in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, the other two being Fairfield High School and Angelo Rodriguez High School. It is named after the Armijo family, who purchased one of the original six land grants in Solano County awarded to General Mariano Vallejo. The school serves about 2600 students in grades 9 to 12 from the central part of Fairfield and Suisun City.

SolanoExpress is a public transit network of regional express buses connecting Solano County, California to Contra Costa County and the Sacramento Valley. It is managed by the Solano Transportation Authority and operated by SolTrans. The Solano Transportation Authority is a joint powers authority established in 1990 by Solano County and the cities of Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville, and Vallejo to serve as the Congestion Management Agency for Solano County, as mandated by California law.

Angela Jackson is an American poet, playwright, and novelist based in Chicago, Illinois. Jackson has been a member of the Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC), a community that fosters the intellectual development of Black creators, since 1970. She has held teaching positions at Kennedy-King College, Columbia College Chicago, Framingham State University, and Howard University. Jackson has won numerous awards, including the American Book Award, and became the fifth Illinois Poet Laureate in 2020.

SolTrans, officially Solano County Transit, is a Joint Powers Authority that provides public transportation service to the southern Solano County cities of Vallejo and Benicia. SolTrans was established in 2011 and is the result of a merger between Vallejo Transit and Benicia Breeze. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 954,200, or about 3,700 per weekday as of the second quarter of 2024.

Diana Lucille Lang, known professionally as D. L. Lang, is an American poet. Her poetry is anthologized in over 60 anthologies. She has published 16 full-length books of poetry, and served as the Poet Laureate of Vallejo, California.

KZCT is a radio station in Vallejo, California founded in 2006 by David Martin and Katie Martinelli. The station broadcasts a variety of community content including rap, reggae, classical, jazz, poetry, religious programming and sports. Notable artists who have appeared on KZCT since its inception include H.E.R., Nef the Pharaoh, Nina Serrano, and D.L. Lang. It has a silent disco party bus it dubs the Twerkulator.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Joel Fallon</span> American poet (1931-2016)

Joel Fallon was the first Poet laureate of Benicia, California. He is the namesake of the Joel Fallon poetry scholarship awarded annually since 2015 to high school students in Benicia, California. He was a founding member of the Benicia First Tuesday Poets, which meets at the Benicia Library monthly since 2003, and also helped begin the Benicia Love Poetry Contest and the annual Poets’ Picnic. He was named Benicia's first poet laureate in 2005. He helped Genea Brice advocate for a poet laureate program in neighboring Vallejo, California. He also served as a vice president of Arts Benicia. Fallon began writing poetry while serving overseas in the United States Army. He was influenced by Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, and Charles Bukowski.

Dwayne Parish is an American poet. He was born in Fairfield, California on Travis Air Force Base and grew up in Vallejo, California. He moved to Richmond in 1992. At age 55, he was named the first poet laureate of Richmond, California in 2012. He prefers to write in the acrostic form. Parish also served on the Richmond Arts & Culture Commission. Parish was succeeded as poet laureate by Donté Clark, Lincoln Bergman, and Brendan Quintanilla, who served concurrently.

Mary Susan Gast is the eighth Poet laureate of Benicia, California. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and Chicago Theological Seminary. She edits a poetry column for the Benicia Herald entitled "Going the Distance."


Kathleen Herrmann is an American poet. She serves concurrently with Jacalyn Eyvonne as poet laureate of Vallejo, California.


Jacalyn Evone Robinson known professionally as Jacalyn Eyvonne is an African-American poet and filmmaker. She serves concurrently with Kathleen Herrmann as poet laureate of Vallejo, California.
