Club career

Jessica Hennessy is from Westmeath and began her soccer career with Mullingar Athletic in 2014 where she represented The Midlands in the Gaynor Cup. In 2015 Hennessy moved to Lucan United for 2 seasons. During Hennessy's time with Lucan United she played with the Dublin MGL Team and won the Gaynor Cup. [11] In 2017 Hennessy transferred to Shelbourne FC for 2 seasons. [12] While with Shelbourne Hennessy helped them secure the U17 All Ireland National League title where she lined out as an attacking midfielder. [13] While with Shelbourne Hennessy also won the FAI Women's U18 Inter-League Cup with the Dublin MGL team in 2018. Following her underage career Hennessy then signed for Womens National League club Athlone Town ahead of the 2020 season. [14] [15]

In 2022 Hennessy helped Athlone Town get to their first FAI Women's Cup Final where they lost 2–0 to her former side Shelbourne FC. [16] Hennessy's impressive 2022 season with Athlone Town earned her a spot on the Womens National League team of the year as well as a recent call-up to Ireland’s home-based training camp. [17]

Following her standout season with Athlone Town that seen them finish runners up in the League and Cup, Hennessy signed for newly-reformed Shamrock Rovers for the 2023 season. [18]

The Dublin Women's Soccer League was a women's association football league featuring teams from the Republic of Ireland. While the majority of the participating clubs were based in the Greater Dublin Area, the DWSL had regularly included teams from outside this area. Whilst previously the DWSL was one of the largest women's leagues in Ireland it had been overtaken by the Wexford, MGL and Cork Leagues. In late 2019, the FAI following discussions revamped Women's Football in the Greater Dublin area and the Eastern Women's Football League (EWFL) chaired by the MGL's Tony Gains were granted the only license to run women's adult football in the Dublin area.
