Jill Crossland is an English pianist, born in Yorkshire. She studied with Ryszard Bakst (a Heinrich Neuhaus pupil) at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, [1] and with Paul Badura-Skoda in Vienna. [2] She has a preference for Baroque and Classical periods of the repertoire, [2] with a focus on the music by Johann Sebastian Bach, playing it on the piano. [1] She has performed his Well-Tempered Clavier from memory since her student years. [1]

Crossland made her Wigmore Hall solo debut in 2004. [2] She recorded in 2003 Bach's English Suite No 2, BWV 807, Partita No 1, BWV 825, and his Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, BWV 903. [1] She also recorded his Goldberg Variations, and piano sonatas by Mozart and Beethoven. [1] In 2005, she recorded works by Bach, Handel and Scarlatti on a historic fortepiano, built by Jirikowsky in 1824, at Restoration House in Rochester. [2] She recorded Parts I and II of the Well-Tempered Clavier, and a reviewer of Gramophone noted in 2008 the "warm, rounded and perpetually singing sonority" of her playing [3] .He described her approach as "intimately scaled and sensitively nuanced". The Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in D minor, BWV 903, is a work for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach probably composed it during his time in Köthen from 1717 to 1723. The piece was already regarded as a unique masterpiece during his lifetime. It is now often played on piano.

Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 548 is a piece of organ music written by Johann Sebastian Bach sometime between 1727 and 1736, during his time in Leipzig. The work is sometimes called "The Wedge" due to the chromatic outward motion of the fugue theme. Unlike most other organ preludes and fugues of Bach, the autograph fair copy of the score survives, though the handwriting changes twenty two measures into the fugue to the hand of Johann Peter Kellner, a likely pupil and acquaintance of Bach who played an important role in the copying of his manuscripts. Because of the work's immense scope, it has been referred to as "a two-movement symphony" for the organ.

The International Piano Competition J. S. Bach, Würzburg is a triennial piano competition that is held in Würzburg, Germany. It was founded by Walter Blankenheim, with the inaugural competition being held in 1992. With 825 competitors from 59 countries, it is the largest Bach piano competition in the world, and the only international Bach piano competition where the repertoire consists of only the works of J.
