Jim Cassell

James Cassell (born 23 April 1947) [1] is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder, and later worked as the youth academy director at Manchester City. He has been responsible for the development of players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Joey Barton, Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha, Daniel Sturridge, Michael Johnson and Micah Richards and many others.

Career

Cassell, born in Prestwich, is a former professional player himself; at one point he was on the books of Manchester United, [2] but it was at Bury during the 1970–71 season that he made his only professional appearances; he played three times in the league, including once as substitute. [3] [4] He eventually had to retire from playing due to a knee injury.

Cassell was the former Chief Scout at Oldham Athletic where he was responsible for initiating the successful scouting and youth policy. Cassell joined Manchester City in July 1997 to oversee the development of the Academy.

Cassell also has 19 years experience working in local government.[ citation needed ]

His excellence in Manchester City's youth programme led them to victory in the FA Youth Cup Final in 2008. He was removed from his position at Manchester City in May 2013, to take on a new role within the Academy as International Academy Director.

David Cross is an English former footballer who played as a striker. He scored 223 goals in 599 appearances in the Football League and the North American Soccer League. Cross was born in Heywood, Lancashire.

David Roy Cowling is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League as a left winger for Huddersfield Town, where he played 340 league games during the 1970s and 1980s. He also played for Scunthorpe United and Reading.

Manchester City is represented at Reserve level for football by the Elite Development Squad, also referred to as just the Elite Squad, or EDS, a predominantly Under-23 side that replaced the previous Reserve team in a move to focus on youth development post-academy. The club is represented at the Under-18 level by the Manchester City Academy team.

The Cardiff City F.C. Academy is the youth football academy at Welsh side Cardiff City. The category two academy has a range of players from ages 7 to 18. The Cardiff City Under-21 side is the highest age group of football other than the senior first team at the club, although the side is allowed to field up to three overage players and a goalkeeper. The age range was initially set at under-21 until 2016 when the limit was increased to players under 23 years of age. From the summer of 2022, the team once again became an Under-21 team. The side competes in the Professional Development League 2.

James Martin Gilligan is an English former professional footballer. He is currently at Watford in the role of Head of Technical Development and has also coached at Nottingham Forest, Wimbledon, Milton Keynes Dons and with The FA. He holds a UEFA Pro License.
