The Eurovision Song Contest, often known simply as Eurovision or by its initialism ESC, is an international song competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed live and transmitted to national broadcasters via the Eurovision and Euroradio networks, with competing countries then casting votes for the other countries' songs to determine a winner.
Domenico Gerhard Gorgoglione, known professionally as Nino de Angelo, is a German singer of Italian descent known for his 1983 chart-topper "Jenseits von Eden", and who participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 with the song "Flieger", written by Dieter Bohlen and Joachim Horn-Bernges.
"Für immer" [Forever] is a punk song by Die Ärzte. It was the ninth track and the first single from their 1986 album Die Ärzte. The song's lyrics express the singer longing for a girl he has fallen deeply in love with on first sight, even though she is dead.

Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 with the song "Hano" written and performed by Nino Pršeš. The national final took place on 25 February 2016 and featured ten competing acts with the winner being selected through two rounds of public voting. Firebrace as the Australian representative and the song he performed, "Don't Come Easy", was announced and presented to the public on 7 March 2017 during an announcement event in Melbourne.

The Spanish broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) used the tenth series of reality television talent competition Operación Triunfo as the platform to select the Spanish entry for the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

It would have taken place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, following the country's victory at the 2019 contest with the song "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence. This edition was the first and only one in the contest's 64-year history to be cancelled, with it being called off on 18 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Portugal originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Medo de sentir" written by Marta Carvalho. The song was performed by Elisa. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2020 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. After two semi-finals and a final which took place in February and March 2020, "Medo de sentir" performed by Elisa emerged as the winner after achieving the highest score following the combination of votes from seven regional juries and a public televote.
