Joseph P. Sulzer is an American Democratic politician,and was mayor of Chillicothe,Ohio.
Sulzer served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio University and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree by Capital University Law School.
Returning to Chillicothe,Sulzer was elected to the city council,where he served for six years. In 1987,Sulzer became mayor of Chillicothe.
In 1992,Sulzer entered the Democratic primary contest for the United States House of Representatives in Ohio's sixth congressional district. He lost that primary race to Ted Strickland.
Sulzer served as Chillicothe mayor until 1996. In 1997,Sulzer was appointed to fill out the term of a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives that had become vacant. While serving in the legislature,Chillicothe city council member Margaret Planton was appointed his successor as mayor. Sulzer won re-election to his Ohio House of Representatives seat in 1998 and 2000. However,in 2002,Sulzer was unseated by Republican John M. Schlichter.
In 2003,Sulzer again ran for the office of Chillicothe mayor. He won the Democratic primary. In the general election,he defeated city council member Diane Carnes,getting 55 percent of the vote.
In August 2005,Sulzer announced that he would run for the US House seat (OH-18) held by Republican Bob Ney. In March 2006,Sulzer called for Ney to step down if explicitly named by Jack Abramoff as someone guilty of corruption.
On May 2,2006,Sulzer lost the primary election for the Democratic nomination in the Ohio 18th to attorney Zack Space. Space got 39% of the vote,Jennifer Stewart 25%,and Sulzer 24%. [1]
In November 2007 Sulzer was re-elected to the office of Mayor in Chillicothe. He defeated former City Council-At-Large Diane Carnes in a crushing victory that helped win the local Democratic Party majority control of City Council with the election of new Council members.
In 2008,Sulzer controversially backed a measure that would install red-light cameras at several intersections in the city and the idea won passage in City Council. [2] They were installed in October 2008,but city residents had them taken down after voting in a favor of a no-red light camera referendum in November 2009. [3]
In 2010,Sulzer unsuccessfully campaigned for Judge of the Ross County Court of Common Pleas,losing to Mike Ater in a three-way race that also included Mark Preston. Sulzer finished third in the race with just 18 percent of the vote. [4]
In 2011,he announced that he would retire from public service at the end of the year and his term as mayor. [5] He is now a private practice attorney.

Robert William Ney is an American politician from Ohio. A Republican,Ney represented Ohio's 18th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until November 3,2006,when he resigned. Ney's resignation took place after he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and making false statements in relation to the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal. Before he pleaded guilty,Ney was identified in the guilty pleas of Jack Abramoff,former Tom DeLay deputy chief of staff Tony Rudy,former DeLay press secretary Michael Scanlon and former Ney chief of staff Neil Volz for receiving lavish gifts in exchange for political favors.
Charles John Luken is an American politician of the Democratic party who was mayor of Cincinnati,Ohio,and served in the Ohio's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. Luken,who is divorced,has three children. When Luken left office at the end of 2005,he was the longest serving mayor in Cincinnati's history with 12 years and one month of service in that role.
Jerry Lon Litton was an American politician from Missouri who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives representing Missouri's 6th congressional district from 1973 until his death in 1976. A member of the Democratic Party,he ran for United States Senate in 1976. Litton won the Democratic primary;however,he died in a plane crash while heading to his victory party.
Joy Padgett is a former Republican member of the Ohio Senate,representing the 20th district until the end of 2008. In 2006,dogged by personal scandals,she ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio and for Congress in Ohio's 18th congressional district. Her run for Congress was the result of the decision of Bob Ney to bow out of the race and plead guilty to corruption charges.
On August 2,2005,elections were held in Ohio's 2nd congressional district to choose a United States representative to replace Rob Portman,who had resigned his seat in April to become United States Trade Representative. Jean Schmidt,the Republican Party candidate,defeated Democrat Paul Hackett,in a surprisingly close election as the district has not elected a Democrat since Tom Luken won a 1974 special election.

He is currently serving as President of Sunday Creek Horizons,a lobbying and advocacy firm founded in 2019 that serves clients in eastern and southern Ohio.
The 2006 Ohio's 2nd congressional district election was an election for the United States House of Representatives that took place on November 7,2006. Incumbent Jean Schmidt,who won the seat in a special election in 2005,ran for reelection. She faced Democrat Victoria Wells Wulsin,a doctor from Indian Hill,in the general election. Results showed that Schmidt won reelection by 1.26%,and Wulsin conceded the race.

The 2018 United States House of Representatives elections in Colorado were held on November 6,2018,to elect the seven U.S. representatives from the state of Colorado,one from each of the state's seven congressional districts. The Republican and Democratic Party primaries in Colorado were held on June 26,2018. The elections coincided with the gubernatorial election,as well as other elections to the House of Representatives,elections to the United States Senate,and various state and local elections.
A special election for Ohio's 12th congressional district was held August 7,2018,following the resignation of Republican U.S. Representative Pat Tiberi. The Republican Party nominated State Senator Troy Balderson for the seat while the Democratic Party nominated Franklin County Recorder Danny O'Connor. Balderson led O'Connor in preliminary results;however,the race was not officially called on election night. Counting of outstanding ballots began on August 18 and was completed on August 24. The outstanding ballots did not change the margin enough to trigger an automatic recount,so Balderson was declared the winner on August 24.

Vance defeated Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Ryan to succeed retiring incumbent Republican Rob Portman.
On March 10,2021,Marcia Fudge resigned her seat in the United States House of Representatives after being confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Biden administration. Governor Mike DeWine set the primary date for August 3,concurrent with the special election in Ohio's 15th congressional district. The general election was on November 2. Shontel Brown won both the competitive Democratic primary and the general election,and was sworn in on November 4.

On May 16,2021,Representative Steve Stivers resigned from his seat in the United States House of Representatives to become president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. Following Stivers' official communication of his intent to resign,Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that the special election to fill the remainder of his term would be held on November 2,2021,with the primary election held on August 3,concurrent with the special election in Ohio's 11th congressional district. In the general election on November 2,Republican nominee Mike Carey defeated Democratic nominee Allison Russo by roughly 17 percentage points.
