St. John's University is a private Catholic university in Queens, New York City. It was founded in 1870 by the Congregation of the Mission with a mission to provide the youth of New York with a Catholic university education. Originally located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, the flagship campus was moved to its current location in the Queens borough during the 1950s. St. John's has additional New York City campuses in Staten Island and Manhattan. Additionally, the university has international campuses located in Rome, Italy, Paris, France, and Limerick, Ireland.

The St. John's Red Storm is the nickname used for the 17 varsity athletic programs of St. John's University, in the U.S. state of New York. St. John's 17 NCAA Division I teams compete in the Big East Conference, with the exception of the fencing team, which compete in the ECAC.
Barry "Slice" Rohrssen is an American college basketball coach and the former head men's basketball coach at Manhattan College. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was named the 22nd head coach in Manhattan Jaspers basketball history on April 25, 2006. Rohrssen was fired on March 9, 2011 after going 58–95 over five seasons. He has also served as an assistant under John Calipari at Kentucky and at St. John's University under Chris Mullin.
Glenn Braica is an American college basketball coach, currently an assistant coach at Fairfield University. He was previously the head coach at St. Francis College from 2010 until the program was cut in 2023. Braica was born in Brooklyn, New York and is an alumnus of Bishop Ford High School and Queens College. In 2006, 2018, and 2023, she was named the Big East Coach of the Year. Persico has tallied 569 career victories and six BIG EAST titles throughout her 30 seasons as head coach. Her total is the 16th most by any active Division I women's volleyball coach. She is the fifth longest-tenured women's volleyball coach at a single program and has tallied the seventh most wins among those coaches.
