David Brian Cone is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher,and current color commentator for the New York Yankees on the YES Network and WPIX. A third round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals in 1981 MLB Draft,he made his MLB debut in 1986 and continued playing until 2003,pitching for five different teams. Cone batted left-handed and threw right-handed.
Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw Jr. was an American professional baseball relief pitcher and long-time Major League Baseball (MLB) player,often remembered for coining the phrase "Ya Gotta Believe",which became the rallying cry for the 1973 New York Mets. Ralph McPherran Kiner was an American Major League Baseball player and broadcaster. An outfielder,Kiner played for the Pittsburgh Pirates,Chicago Cubs,and Cleveland Indians from 1946 through 1955. Following his retirement,Kiner served from 1956 through 1960 as general manager of the Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres. He also served as an announcer for the New York Mets from the team's inception until his death. Though injuries forced his retirement from active play after 10 seasons,Kiner led all of his National League contemporaries in hitting between 1946 and 1952. Derrel McKinley "Bud" Harrelson is a former Major League Baseball shortstop. He is a coach and part-owner for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. After his retirement as a player,he served as a coach for the World Champion 1986 Mets,and as manager of the Mets in 1990 and 1991. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1986. Harrelson is the only person to take part in both of the Mets' World Series championships and appear in the first three world series for the team;he won in 1969 and appeared in the 1973 World Series as a player and in 1986 as a coach. Harrelson is also the only person in Mets franchise history to have appeared in four playoff seasons;as a player in 1969 and 1973;and as a coach in 1986 and 1988.

It was played at Cinergy Field in Cincinnati,on October 4,1999. The Mets won the game,5–0,with starting pitcher Al Leiter pitching a two-hit shutout. As a result,the Mets qualified for the postseason and the Reds did not.
