Joel Farrell (born 15 March 1994) is a Jamaican professional rugby league footballer who plays as a second-row forward for the Sheffield Eagles in the Betfred Championship and Jamaica at international level. [3] [4]

Farrell is a Jamaican international. [5] He has previously spent time on loan at the Gateshead Thunder in the Kingstone Press League 1 competition. [6] In 2019 he helped the Eagles to win the inaugural 1895 Cup as they defeated Widnes Vikings 36–18 in the final; Farrell scored a try to level the game at 18–18. [7]

He has also previously played for the Dewsbury Rams and the Batley Bulldogs.

Personal life

Born in England, Farrell is of Jamaican, Trinidadian, English and Scottish descent. [8]

The 2019 RFL 1895 Cup, known as the 2019 AB Sundecks 1895 Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the inaugural tournament for the RFL 1895 Cup, a rugby league football competition for clubs in the United Kingdom. The tournament was played between League 1 and Championship teams between May and August 2019. The format of the tournament was confirmed in December 2018, and consisted of five rounds. In round 1 eight League 1 teams played in a knock out round. Round 2 introduced the 12 English teams from the Championship who with the winners from round 1 will play eight ties. The quarter-finals and semi-finals followed in June and July, with the final played at Wembley Stadium on 24 August, with the Challenge Cup final also being played on this day.

In the 2021 rugby league season York City Knights competed in the 2021 RFL Championship, the 2021 Challenge Cup and the 2021 RFL 1895 Cup. It was the first season that the club played at the York Community Stadium. At the RFL end of year awards York was named as the Championship Club of the Year.
