Joey Jackson (born September 15, 1966) is an American criminal defense attorney with a practice based in New York City. The former NY state prosecutor is a legal analyst for CNN and HLN [1] [2] [3] [4] and frequently contributes to other local and national media outlets as an analyst and legal expert. [3] [5] [6] [7]

Education

Jackson received a BA from SUNY Brockport, an MPA from University at Albany’s Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy in 1992, and later a JD from Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University before being admitted to the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). As a law student, Jackson served as editor for the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal. [3]

Early career

As a graduate and professional student, Jackson held internships with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and New York Democratic Congressman Charles Rangel’s office in Washington, D.C. While pursuing his Master's Degree, Jackson served as a Legislative Analyst for the New York State Assembly Speaker. Jackson is a former adjunct professor at Monroe College (Bronx, New York). [3]

Career

District Attorney

Under Robert Morgenthau, Jackson was appointed assistant district attorney in the New York County District Attorney's Office, which covered the borough of Manhattan from 1995 to 1998.

Defense attorney

As a defense attorney, Jackson has handled cases in areas of criminal defense, labor and employment, and civil service law.

Media personality

Jackson joined CNN and HLN in 2013, but has also recently appeared on Fox News, Fox Business Channel, Court TV, In Session, ABC, NBC, and MSNBC.

Green Haven Correctional Facility is a maximum security prison in New York, United States. The prison is located in the Town of Beekman in Dutchess County. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision lists the address as Route 216, Stormville, New York 12582. This prison housed New York's execution chamber during the time the state briefly had the death penalty in the post-Furman era. It was originally a federal prison and now houses maximum security inmates. Green Haven Correctional Facility also operated a Hot Kosher Foods Program; but no longer does as of 2020. However, because of this, the prison had a large Jewish population. Yale Law School operates the Green Haven Prison Project, a series of seminars among Yale law students and Green Haven inmates on law and policy issues concerning prisons and criminal law.

Larry Davis, later known as Adam Abdul-Hakeem, was a man from New York City who gained notoriety in November 1986 for his shootout in the South Bronx with officers of the New York City Police Department, in which six officers were shot. Davis, asserting self-defense, was acquitted of all charges aside from illegal gun possession. Davis was later convicted in April 1991 of a Bronx drug dealer's 1986 murder. In 2008, Davis died via stabbing by a fellow inmate.

The San Quentin Six were six inmates at San Quentin State Prison in the U.S. state of California who were charged with actions related to an August 21, 1971 escape attempt that resulted in six deaths and at least two people seriously wounded. Jerome "Jerry" Rosenberg was a New York State convict, mobster, and jail house lawyer. He was incarcerated for 46 years, longer than any other prisoner in New York State history. Rosenberg was sentenced to death for his involvement in the 1962 double homicide of two New York City police officers during a robbery carried out with two other Mafia-connected gangsters. His sentence was commuted to life in prison in June 1965, after capital punishment was abolished in New York. Rosenberg went on to become the first New York State inmate to earn a law degree and in turn gave legal advice to several inmates, including the leaders of the Attica Prison riot.
