Johannes Gumpp (born 14 August 1626 in Innsbruck, lived at least until 1646) was an Austrian painter. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]

He is notable for his 1646 self-portrait showing him looking into a mirror while painting himself. The painting is on display in the Vasari corridor which connects to the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. He created another similar painting and is known for no other works.

Gumpp was born in Innsbruck and was the son of Christoph Gumpp, an architect. He was likely part of the same Gumpp family that produced artists in the 16th and 18th centuries.

Alessandro Vezzosi is an Italian art critic, Leonardo scholar, artist, expert on interdisciplinary studies and creative museology, he is also the author of hundreds of exhibits, publications and conferences, in Italy and abroad on Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance, contemporary art and design. Amongst others, he was the first scholar from the Armand Hammer Centre for Leonardo Studies from the University of California in Los Angeles (1981), directed by Carlo Pedretti; he taught at the University of Progetto in Reggio Emilia; and he is honorary professor at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno of Florence. He began as an artist from 1964 to 1971 winning more than 80 prizes in painting competitions. Judith is an oil on panel painting, attributed to Palma Vecchio, and created in 1525-1528. It is held in the Uffizi, in Florence. The attribution to Palma Vecchio was questioned in the past but is now usually accepted. Art historians Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle and Joseph Archer Crowe have attributed it to Palma Vecchio, also identifying damage from heavy-handed cleaning, especially on the head of Holofernes. This attribution has been confirmed by György Gombosi and Giovanni Mariacher, who identified it as a mature work of that artist.

It was in archduke Leopold William of Austria's collection in Brussels from 1653 to 1662 before being moved to the Imperial Galleries in Vienna, before finally being exchanged for another work with the Uffizi in Florence in 1793, where it is now inventory number 950.

Vanitas is a 1650-1670 oil on canvas painting by Mattia Preti, now inventory number 9283 in the Uffizi in Florence, for which it was bought in 1951 from a private collection. Art historians diasgree on whether the painting is a fragment of a larger work or retains its original dimensions, as well as whether it is a general vanitas or depicts Mary Magdalene.
