Rear admiral is a senior naval flag officer rank, equivalent to a major general and air vice marshal and above that of a commodore and captain, but below that of a vice admiral. It is regarded as a two star "admiral" rank. It is often regarded as a two-star rank with a NATO code of OF-7.
The United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF) is a service component command of the United States Navy that provides naval forces to a wide variety of U.S. forces. The naval resources may be allocated to Combatant Commanders such as United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) under the authority of the Secretary of Defense. Originally formed as United States Atlantic Fleet (USLANTFLT) in 1906, it has been an integral part of the defense of the United States of America since the early 20th century. In 2002, the Fleet comprised over 118,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel serving on 186 ships and in 1,300 aircraft, with an area of responsibility ranging over most of the Atlantic Ocean from the North Pole to the South Pole, the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and the waters of the Pacific Ocean along the coasts of Central and South America.
The United States Second Fleet is a numbered fleet in the United States Navy responsible for the East Coast and North Atlantic Ocean. The Fleet was established following World War II. In September 2011, Second Fleet was deactivated in view of the United States Government's perception that the potential military threat posed by Russia had diminished. On 4 May 2018, Admiral John M. Richardson, the Chief of Naval Operations, announced plans to reestablish Second Fleet amid heightened tensions between NATO and Russia. It was reestablished on 24 August 2018, with Vice Admiral Andrew "Woody" Lewis in command.

Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (COMUSFF/COMFLTFORCOM) is the title of the United States Navy officer who serves as the commanding officer of the United States Fleet Forces Command. The U.S. Fleet Forces Command was originally established in 1905 as the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and as a two-star rear admiral's billet; the position has been held by a four-star admiral since March 10, 1915. The 45th, and current, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command is Admiral Daryl L. Caudle.
The U.S. Tenth Fleet is a functional formation and a numbered fleet in the United States Navy. It was first created as an anti-submarine warfare coordinating organization during the Battle of the Atlantic in the Second World War. It was reactivated as a force provider for Fleet Cyber Command on 29 January 2010. U.S. Tenth Fleet serves as the numbered fleet for U.S. Fleet Cyber Command and exercises operational control of assigned naval forces to coordinate with other naval, coalition and Joint Task Forces to execute the full spectrum of cyber, electronic warfare, information operations, and signal intelligence capabilities and missions across the cyber, electromagnetic, and space domains.
The Chief of Chaplains of the United States Navy (CHC) is the highest-ranking military chaplain in the United States Navy and head of the United States Navy Chaplain Corps. As part of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and Department of the Navy, the CHC is dual-hatted as the Director of Religious Ministries (N097) under OPNAV. In these capacities, the CHC is the principal advisor to the secretary of the Navy, the chief of naval operations and, where appropriate, the commandant of the Marine Corps and commandant of the Coast Guard "on all matters pertaining to religion within the Navy, United States Marine Corps, and United States Coast Guard." For administrative and personnel matters, the CHC reports to the chief of naval personnel.

John Fredric G. Wade is a United States Navy rear admiral who currently serves as the Director of Operations of the United States Indo-Pacific Command since October 13, 2020. Previously, he was the Director of Maritime Operations of the United States Fleet Forces Command from July 2019 to September 2020. Wade graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1990 with a B.S. degree in economics. He later earned a master's degree in information systems technology from the Naval Postgraduate School and a second master's degree in national security strategy from the National War College.
Daniel William Dwyer is a United States Navy vice admiral who serves as the commander of United States Second Fleet and Joint Force Command Norfolk since August 20, 2021. He most recently served as director of plans and policy of the United States Cyber Command from July 11, 2020 to August 2021. Previously, he was the Vice Commander of the Naval Air Systems Command from August 2015 to August 2016. Born and raised in Alameda, California, Dwyer graduated from the California Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation in 1988. He later earned a Master of Science degree in computer information science from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts degree in foreign affairs and strategic studies from the Naval War College.
Donald Dean Gabrielson is a retired United States Navy rear admiral and surface warfare officer who last served as the 10th commander of the United States Naval Forces Southern Command and United States Fourth Fleet from May 21, 2019 to September 3, 2021. Previously, he served as the commander of Carrier Strike Group 11 from June 2018 to May 2019, with tours as commander of Task Force 73 and Logistics Group Western Pacific from August 2016 to June 2018, 12th commander of USS Cape St. George (CG-71) from May 2011 to February 2013, as well as being the first commanding officer of USS Freedom (LCS-1) from September 2006 to March 2009. He was promoted to rear admiral effective August 1, 2019.
