John Brandenberg is a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Brandenberg was originally elected in 1972,and reelected in 1974. However,in 1976,former Rep. Thomas Pottenger opted to run for Bradenberg's seat,creating a primary for the Republican nomination. [1] As a result,Brandenberg was defeated for a third term,and Pottenger went on to win the general election. [2] Prior and after his stint in the House,Brandenberg practiced private law.

Incumbent Republican Governor of Ohio George Voinovich could not seek a third term as Governor due to term limits,and ran for the United States Senate instead. To replace him,former Attorney General of Ohio Lee Fisher and Ohio Secretary of State Bob Taft won the Democratic and Republican primaries,respectively. Taft and Fisher faced off in a highly competitive general election,and in the end,Taft beat out Fisher by a narrow margin,making this gubernatorial election one of Ohio's closest.

The 2010 Ohio Attorney General election was held on November 6,2010,concurrently with other statewide offices including a Class 1 Senate election as well as the Governor election. Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Richard Cordray who was elected in a 2008 special election ran for a full 4-year term but was defeated by Republican challenger and former 2-term United States senator Mike DeWine. Being decided by 1.2%,this was the closest statewide election in Ohio. Cordray and DeWine would later face off against each other again in the 2018 Governor election.
The 2008 Ohio Attorney General special election was held on November 4,2010,concurrently with the Presidential Election as well as elections to the United States House of Representatives. Incumbent Attorney General Marc Dann who was elected in 2006 resigned on May 14,2008,due to scandals,thus triggering a special election. Governor Ted Strickland appointed Nancy H. Rogers to the position,but she announced she would not run to complete the rest of Marc's term. On June 11,2008,Ohio State Treasurer Richard Cordray announced his candidacy for the election. He was challenged in the general election by former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Michael Crites. Cordray won in a landslide winning 56% of the vote to Crites' 38%.
