John Martin Cosker is an American designer, engineer of builder and powerboats. He is known for his work in designing and engineering high speed luxury and racing powerboats, with some models reaching speeds of well over 200 miles per hour. [1] [2] He is a pioneer in high performance race boat design and manufacturing methods. [1]

Early life and education

Cosker graduated from Florida Institute of Technology in 1991.

Career

He founded Mystic Powerboats in Melbourne, Florida in 1996. [1] [3] The company now resides in Deland, Florida and sell boats internationally. [4] His designs include boats with twin turbine engines, each with 2,500 horsepower. [2] In 2006, his team broke the race record at 208 miles per hour on the one mile drag at the 18th annual Lake Rescue Benefit Shootout, considered by Powerboat Magazine as one of the top eight boat events in the world. [5] In 2017, the team won their third race with a speed of 204 miles per hour on a 51-foot Mystic with 9,000 horsepower. [6] A Mystic racing boat has won this race 5 times. [7] [8] In 2012, he sold a $2 million racing boat to the Qatar Marine Sports Federation. [4]

The Miss GEICO offshore powerboat racing team was founded by John Haggin, who retired from the team in 2010. Today Miss GEICO is owned and operated by AMF Riviera Beach which is owned by Marc Granet, Scotty Begovich, Scott Colton, Gary Stray, Gary Goodell and sponsored by the American insurance company GEICO. There have been several versions of the Miss GEICO boat, including one of the fastest offshore powerboats in the world. The most powerful was a 50' Mystic powered by twin Lycoming T-53 turbine engines, reaching speeds exceeding 210 mph (340 km/h); which caught fire during testing on June 30, 2012, in Sarasota, Florida, and burned to the waterline, with no injuries. When driven by Granet and throttled by Begovich, Miss GEICO won five consecutive World Championships, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Fuel injection in NASCAR was introduced in 2012, having previously been announced for 2011, which was the last season to see the premier NASCAR series use carburetion. Only the Xfinity Series uses carburetors through into 2021, with no announced change to injection.

The 2020 Coke Zero Sugar 400 was an NASCAR Cup Series race held on August 29, 2020 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Contested over 164 laps -- extended from 160 laps due to an overtime finish, on the 2.5-mile (4.0 km) superspeedway, it was the 26th race of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, and the final race of the regular season before the playoffs.

The 2014 DRIVE4COPD 300 was the first stock car race of the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, and the 33rd iteration of the event. The race was held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, in Daytona Beach, Florida at Daytona International Speedway, a 2.5 miles (4.0 km) permanent asphalt quad-oval superspeedway. The race was extended from 120 laps to 121 laps, due to a NASCAR overtime finish. At race's end, Regan Smith, driving for JR Motorsports, would hold off Brad Keselowski in a photo finish for his 4th career NASCAR Nationwide Series win. Smith would beat Keselowski by 0.013 second. To fill out the podium, Trevor Bayne of Roush Fenway Racing would finish third, respectively.
