John F. O'Halloran was an American seaport operations executive who served as the first director of the Massachusetts Port Authority.
O'Halloran was born in Charlestown. He attended Boston Public Schools,Boston University,and Harvard Business School. [1]
O'Halloran began his career in 1922 as a messenger and worked his way up the ranks. During World War II he organized a system of cargo control for the Boston Port of Embarkation which was copied by other ports throughout the United States. In 1948 he was named general manager of Tidewater Terminal,Inc. From 1955 to 1957 O'Halloran served as the director of the Port of Boston,the predecessor of the Massachusetts Port Authority. From 1957 to 1959,O'Halloran was the executive vice president of Wiggins Terminals,Inc.,which operated piers in Charlestown,and general manager of Terminal Operators,which leased and managed the piers at the South Boston Army Base. From 1959 to 1963,O'Halloran served as the executive director of the Massachusetts Port Authority. During his tenure with the Massachusetts Port Authority,it began a massive remodeling job of Logan International Airport,which included the redesign and reconstruction of hundreds of acres of buildings,roadways,and taxiways,including the construction of four finger piers and two new terminals. [2] After leaving the Massachusetts Port Authority,O'Halloran served as president of Port Terminals,Inc. [1]
O'Halloran died unexpectedly on May 25,1968,while visiting his son in Norwell,Massachusetts. He was 54 years old. [1]
General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport,also known as Boston Logan International Airport and commonly as Boston Logan,Logan Airport or simply Logan,is an international airport that is located mostly in East Boston and partially in Winthrop,Massachusetts. Charlestown is the oldest neighborhood in Boston,Massachusetts,in the United States. Originally called Mishawum by the Massachusett tribe,it is located on a peninsula north of the Charles River,across from downtown Boston,and also adjoins the Mystic River and Boston Harbor waterways. Charlestown was laid out in 1629 by engineer Thomas Graves,one of its earliest settlers,during the reign of Charles I of England. It was originally a separate town and the first capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

The Maurice J. Tobin Memorial Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that spans more than two miles (3 km) from Boston to Chelsea over the Mystic River in Massachusetts. The bridge is the largest in New England. It is operated by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and carries U.S. Route 1. It was built between 1948 and 1950 and opened to traffic on February 2,1950,replacing the former Chelsea Bridge. The 36-foot (11 m)-wide roadway has three lanes of traffic on each of the two levels with northbound traffic on the lower level and southbound traffic on the upper level.

The Haverhill Line and Newburyport/Rockport Line pass through the station on separate tracks but do not stop.
The MBTA boat or MBTA ferry system is a public boat service providing water transportation in Boston Harbor. It is operated by Boston Harbor Cruises (BHC) under contract to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). In 2022,the system had a ridership of 797,700,or about 3,000 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2022. The system consists of three routes that terminate in downtown Boston. F1 service runs from Rowes Wharf to Hewitt's Cove in Hingham. F2H service runs from Long Wharf to Hewitt's Cove,with some trips stopping at Logan Airport,Pemberton Point in Hull,and/or some of the Boston Harbor Islands. F4 service runs in the inner harbor between Long Wharf and the Charlestown Navy Yard. A seasonal pilot service also operates between Long Wharf and East Boston. Two additional seasonal routes,not funded by the MBTA but included on some MBTA documents,run from Boston to Salem and Winthrop.

Mishawum station is an MBTA Commuter Rail Lowell Line station located in the north part of Woburn,Massachusetts just north of the Route 128/I-95 beltway. The station has two side platforms serving the line's two tracks. Mishawum is a limited-service flag stop intended for reverse commuting to the adjacent office park,with no weekend service. With just 32 boardings on an average weekday in 2018,Mishawum is one of the least busy stations on the commuter rail system.
