John Forgety

John W. Forgety (born March 28, 1946) is a Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives for the 23rd district, encompassing Athens, McMinn County and part of Monroe County, Tellico Plains, Rural Vale, and Coker Creek. [1] [2]

Biography

Forgety is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a school administrator for forty years and served in the Tennessee Army National Guard for twenty years along with deploying to Iraq in 2004 to 2005. [2] [3] In 2011, he was elected as a Republican Representative for the 23rd district, a seat formerly represented by now-Senator Mike Bell. [2] Regarding education, he has said he is critical of student evaluations. [3] He is the President of the Athens chapter of the Kiwanis. [4]

Forgety is married with two children. [1] He is a Baptist. [1] He lives in Athens, Tennessee with his wife, Faye. [2]

Doug Overbey is an American lawyer and former politician who served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee from 2017 to 2021. Prior to becoming the U.S. Attorney, he represented District 2 in the Tennessee Senate as a Republican from 2009 to 2017. Overbey was chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee and vice-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. He is a senior partner and co-founder of the Robertson Overbey law firm and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee College of Law. Prior to becoming a state senator, Overbey served in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008. On February 8, 2021, he along with 55 other Trump-era attorneys were asked to resign.
