John Hegarty (Gaelic footballer)

John Hagerty is a Gaelic football manager and former player who currently manages the Wexford county football team. He previously played for Wexford and Killanerin, as well as Leinster and UCD. He was a full-forward during his playing career.

He made 105 appearances for Wexford and his inter-county career went from 1995 up until 2006, scoring 21–125 in all that time. [1] Wexford went from Division 4 to Division 1 National Football League during his career and they got to the Division 1 final back in 2005. [2]

He played for Leinster and won a Railway Cup. [1] He played for UCD and won a Sigerson Cup. [1] He won six Wexford Senior Football Championship titles when he was playing and one Intermediate Football Championship title. [1]

After his retirement, he went on to become a manager. [1] He won Senior Football Championships with Kilanerin as a player-manager and Shelmaliers. [1] He was appointed as Wexford manager in September 2022, following the retirement of Shane Roche. [3] [4] [5] He continued to be Shelmaliers boss for the Senior Football Championship after his name was revealed for the Wexford post. [6]

He is originally from Kilanerin and lives in Wexford town. [1] Outside of football, Hegarty is the deputy principal in the Wexford CBS [7] and a Fine Gael member of Wexford County Council. [8] He was the deputy Mayor of Wexford from 2021 to 2022. [9]

John Meyler is an Irish hurling manager and former selector, association footballer, Gaelic footballer and hurler who is currently the manager of the Kilmoyley senior hurling team. He has formerly managed the Kerry, Wexford, Carlow and Cork senior hurling teams.

John Harding was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with the Shelmaliers club and was an All-Ireland Championship winner with the Wexford senior hurling team in 1960.

Shelmaliers is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Castlebridge, County Wexford, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886, with the name Shelmaliers being adopted in 1952, and fields teams in hurling, Gaelic football and camogie.

The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner going on to represent Wexford in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. Mick Lillis is a Gaelic games coach and manager and former player. He played for the Laois county football team, later managing them and has also been involved with numerous clubs in several counties. As well as managing winning senior championship teams in Laois with Portlaoise, he also guided St Laurence's in Kildare and Palatine in Carlow to county titles.
