John Kennedy Batista de Souza (born 18 May 2002), known as John Kennedy, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Liga MX club Pachuca, on loan from Fluminense.

Club career

Fluminense

Born in Itaúna, Minas Gerais, John Kennedy joined Fluminense's youth setup in 2016, aged 14, from Serrano-RJ. [2] On 29 September 2020, he renewed his contract with the club until 2024. [3]

John Kennedy made his first team – and Série A – debut on 20 January 2021; after coming on as a half-time substitute for fellow youth graduate Luiz Henrique, he scored his team's first in a 3–3 away draw against Coritiba. [4] [5] Later that year, on 23 October, he scored a brace in a 3–1 home win over rivals Flamengo. [6]

On 4 November 2023, he scored the winning goal for Fluminense in a 2–1 victory over Boca Juniors after extra time in the Copa Libertadores final, to be his club's first title in that competition. [7] A month later, on 18 December, he scored a goal in the 90th minute in a 2–0 victory over Al Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals. [8]

Loan to Pachuca

On 6 January 2025, Kennedy joined Mexican club Pachuca on a one-year loan. [9]

The 2023 season is Clube de Regatas do Flamengo's 128th year of existence, their 112th football season, and their 53rd in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, having never been relegated from the top division. In addition to the 2023 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Flamengo will also compete in the Supercopa do Brasil, Recopa Sudamericana, CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, the Copa do Brasil, and the Campeonato Carioca, the top tier of Rio de Janeiro's state football. Due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup being played in the December 2022 the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup moved its schedule to February 2023 into the Brazilian season, as the current Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo will play the competition for the second time.
