John Kosty is an American men's volleyball coach and former player. He's currently the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal men's volleyball team. He was named the 2010 AVCA Coach of the Year for leading Stanford to the 2010 NCAA men's volleyball tournament championship.
Kosty, a Fountain Valley, California, native, attended Fountain Valley High School and played men's volleyball. [2] He attended Golden West College for one year before enrolling at the University of California, Santa Barbara. [3] While at UCSB, Kosty was a middle blocker for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's volleyball team from 1985 to 1987 alongside teammate Jared Huffman. [4] [5] In just three seasons, Kosty found himself near the top of the Gaucho record books placing third in career solo blocks and third in single season solo blocks (1987). [5] Kosty was named as an All-American in 1987.
Kosty joined Stanford as an assistant coach in 1991. He served in that position under Ruben Nieves, then later Don Shaw.
With Kosty as head coach, the Stanford Cardinal won the 2010 NCAA men's volleyball tournament, the program's first since 1997 when he was an assistant coach. [6]
Kosty was named the 2010 AVCA Coach of the Year in addition to being the 2010 and 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coach of the Year. [7] [8]
Harder Stadium is a 17,000-seat, outdoor multi-purpose stadium on the west coast of the United States, on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California. It serves as the on-campus soccer stadium for both the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's and women's programs and also for Santa Barbara Sky of the USL Championship beginning 2026. Currently used occasionally by the university's club rugby and lacrosse teams, it was originally the home of the defunct football program.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is an organization of over 9,000 members, incorporated as a private non-profit educational corporation in 1981, as the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Association. It is currently headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing the University of California, Santa Barbara. Referred to in athletic competition as UC Santa Barbara or UCSB, the Gauchos participate in 19 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports with the majority competing in the Big West Conference. UCSB currently fields varsity teams in 10 men's and 9 women's sports.
The Long Beach State men's volleyball team is the NCAA Division I men's volleyball team for Long Beach State University. Alan Knipe has been the head coach since 2001, except for three years coaching the United States men's national volleyball team.

John Dunning is an American volleyball coach who was the head women's coach at Stanford University (2001–2016) and the University of the Pacific (1985–2000). In 32 seasons of collegiate coaching, he guided his teams to five NCAA championships – second most of any Division I women's volleyball coach – and compiled an overall record of 888–185 (.828). He is one of only two Division I college volleyball coaches to have won NCAA championships at two different schools.

The Cougars, led by sixth year head coach Shawn Olmstead, play their home games at Smith Fieldhouse. The Cougars are members of the MPSF and were picked to win the MPSF in the preseason poll. After finishing last season ranked #1 the Cougars enter the 2021 season with the #1 ranking.

The Cougars were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish third in the MPSF preseason poll. After finishing last season ranked #2 the Cougars enter the 2022 season with the #6 ranking.
The 2022 Grand Canyon Antelopes men's volleyball team represented Grand Canyon University in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The 'Lopes, led by seventh year head coach Matt Werle, played their home games at GCU Arena. The 'Lopes were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish fourth in the MPSF preseason poll. The Lopes finished fourth in the MPSF but fell in the 1st Round of the MPSF Tournament to Stanford.
The 2022 Pepperdine Waves men's volleyball team represented Pepperdine University in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Waves, led by fifth year head coach David Hunt, played their home games at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves were members of the MPSF and were picked to win in the preseason poll.
The 2022 UCLA men's volleyball team represented University of California, Los Angeles in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Bruins, led by tenth year head coach John Speraw, played their home games at Pauley Pavilion when basketball did not conflict with the home game schedule and at John Wooden Center when basketball conflicted with the home game schedule. The Bruins were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish second in the MPSF preseason poll. UCLA hosted the MPSF tournament and also the 2022 NCAA Championship at Pauley Pavilion. The 2022 NCAA Championship began on May 1 with an opening round match.
The 2022 USC Trojans men's volleyball team represented the University of Southern California in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Trojans, led by seventh year head coach Jeff Nygaard, played their home games at Galen Center. The Trojans were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish fifth in the MPSF preseason poll.
The 2022 Stanford Cardinal men's volleyball team represented Stanford University in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Cardinal, led by sixteenth year head coach John Kosty, played their home games split between Burnham Pavilion & Ford Center and Maples Pavilion. After being told that the 2021 season would be the Cardinal's final season of men's volleyball play, the program was saved when the university reversed their decision near the end of last years athletic calendar. The Cardinal are members of the MPSF and were picked to finish sixth in the MPSF preseason poll. Stanford finished fifth and pulled off two upsets in the MPSF Volleyball Tournament before falling to Pepperdine in the Championship.
The 2022 Concordia Eagles men's volleyball team represented Concordia University Irvine in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Eagles, led by first year head coach Riley Salmon, played their home games at CU Arena. The Eagles were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish seventh in the MPSF preseason poll. The Eagles tied with BYU for the worst in the league, but due to BYU winning the tiebreaker Concordia finished seventh and fell to USC in the MPSF Tournament 1st Round.

The Gauchos, led by fourteenth year head coach Rick McLaughlin, split their home games between Robertson Gymnasium and The Thunderdome. The Gauchos competed as members of the Big West Conference and were picked as one of two teams to finish fourth in the Big West preseason poll.
The 2023 BYU Cougars men's volleyball team represented Brigham Young University in the 2023 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Cougars, led by eighth year head coach Shawn Olmstead, played their home games at Smith Fieldhouse. The Cougars were members of the MPSF. After finishing last season with a MPSF quarterfinal tournament loss, the Cougars were picked to finish sixth in the MPSF Pre-Season Poll.
