John David Lumsdon (born 20 July 1956) is an English former footballer who played at right-back for Stoke City, Port Vale, and Telford United in the 1970s.
Lumsdon started his career with Stoke City, playing ten First Division games in the 1975–76 season. He made 13 appearances in the 1976–77 season as Tony Waddington's "Potters" suffered relegation. He played five Second Division games in the 1977–78 season. He was loaned to Potteries derby rivals Port Vale in March 1978, and played five Third Division games for Bobby Smith's "Valiants" before returning to Victoria Ground at the end of the season. [1] As of March 2017, he is the last player to have joined Port Vale on loan from Stoke City. [3] He later moved on to Southern League side Telford United.

He was a skilful forward but, although capped five times at under-23 level, he never played for the full side, and is labelled as the finest English player never to play for England. He made nearly 600 appearances in league football. His younger brother Brian was also a professional footballer.

In English football, the Potteries derby is the local derby between the two major clubs in the city of Stoke-on-Trent – Port Vale and Stoke City, first contested in 1882. Port Vale play at Vale Park whilse Stoke play at the bet365 Stadium, the two grounds separated by roughly 4.3 miles (6.9 km). The fans of each club both consider the other to be their main rivals; this has led to a heated atmosphere at these matches. The two teams have met a total of 185 times, consisting of: 44 English Football League, 6 FA Cup, 62 friendlies, and 73 other cup games. One study in 2019 ranked it as the joint-28th biggest rivalry in English professional football, level with the Manchester derby.

A midfielder, he played for Port Vale between 1976 and 1981, picking up the club's Player of the Year award in 1980, also playing on loan at American club Cleveland Cobras in 1978. In 1981, he was sold to Walsall, before he moved on to Peterborough United two years later. He dropped into non-League football with Stafford Rangers in 1985, with whom he won the Conference League Cup, before he retired in 1988. He played 314 league games in the Football League, scoring 28 goals.
Anthony John Lacey is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder for Stoke City, Port Vale, Rochdale, and Stafford Rangers. He made 288 league appearances in a ten-year career in the Football League, and won promotion out of the Fourth Division with Port Vale in 1969–70. He later went into coaching with Stoke City, and served as caretaker manager for eight games in 1985. He began coaching at the Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy in 1996.

George Walter Foster is an English former footballer and manager, who now works as assistant manager to James Rowe at National League club Chesterfield.
The 1982–83 season was Port Vale's 71st season of football in the English Football League, and their fifth successive season in the Fourth Division. John McGrath led the Vale to a club-record 88 points, which saw them win promotion in third place. This was some achievement considering McGrath had sold both the Chamberlain brothers and goalkeeper Mark Harrison to rivals Stoke City at the start of the season. Receiving £240,000 for these three players, he spent only £15,000 to bring top-scorer Bob Newton to Vale Park, and signed Player of the Year Wayne Cegielski for free.
