Rear-Admiral John F. Newton CMM MSM CD is a retired Royal Canadian Navy officer and now liaison officer with Veterans Affairs Canada.
He joined the Navy in 1983 [1] after graduating as a geologist from Dalhousie University. [2] He commanded HMCS Fredericton from 2003 until 2006.
In 2008 he took command of Canadian Forces Base Halifax. In 2010 he was appointed director general of naval personnel and promoted to commodore. [2]
He was appointed Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic in July 2013. [3] In 2017 he took up a post as liaison officer with Veterans Affairs Canada. [4]
On June 4, 2018, he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Prior to that, he served as Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet. He assumed his post as CDRUSNORTHCOM and commander of NORAD on December 5, 2014, and was succeeded by General Lori Robinson on May 13, 2016.
Herbert Fairfax Leary was a highly decorated officer in the United States Navy with the rank of vice admiral. A son of Rear Admiral Richard P. Vice-Admiral (Ret'd) Mark A. G. Norman, is a retired Royal Canadian Navy officer. He took up the post of Vice Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada on August 5, 2016. He was temporarily relieved of the post on January 16, 2017, and was permanently removed on June 27, 2018, accused of having released sensitive government information to affect a procurement of naval supply ships, which potentially constituted a breach of trust. In 2019, charges against him were dropped by the Crown because there was "no reasonable prospect of conviction." Norman subsequently received an "all-party" apology from the House of Commons, a settlement of claims, and full reimbursement of legal fees incurred by him.
Vice Admiral Stuart Campbell Mayer, is a retired senior officer of the Royal Australian Navy. He joined the navy via the Royal Australian Naval College at HMAS Creswell in 1984 and qualified as a Principal Warfare Officer in 1994. He commanded HMAS Canberra (2002–04), HMAS Anzac (2007–09) and the International Stabilisation Force (2009–10), and deployed on operations to the Persian Gulf, East Timor, and the Arabian Sea during the Iraq War. He served as Commander Australian Fleet from 2014 to 2018, Head Force Design within the Vice Chief of Defence Force Group from 2018 to 2019, and Deputy Commander United Nations Command, based in South Korea, from 2019 to 2021.
