Sierra Leone,officially the Republic of Sierra Leone,is a country on the southwest coast of West Africa. It shares its southeastern border with Liberia and is bordered by Guinea to the north. With a land area of 71,740 km2 (27,699 sq mi),Sierra Leone has a tropical climate and with a variety of environments ranging from savannas to rainforests. According to the 2015 census,Sierra Leone has a population of 7,092,113,with Freetown serving as both the capital and largest city. The country is divided into five administrative regions,which are further subdivided into 16 districts.
The economy of Sierra Leone is $4.082 billion by gross domestic product as of 2018. Since the end of the Sierra Leone Civil War in 2002,the economy is gradually recovering with a gross domestic product growth rate between 4 and 7%. In 2008 it in PPP ranked between 147th by World Bank,and 153rd by CIA,largest in the world.
The Mende are one of the two largest ethnic groups in Sierra Leone;their neighbours,the Temne people,constitute the largest ethnic group at 35.5% of the total population,which is slightly larger than the Mende at 31.2%. The Mende are predominantly found in the Southern Province and the Eastern Province. The Mende are mostly farmers and hunters. Some of the major cities with significant Mende populations include Bo,Kenema,Kailahun,and Moyamba.
The Sierra Leone Civil War (1991–2002),or the Sierra Leonean Civil War,was a civil war in Sierra Leone that began on 23 March 1991 when the Revolutionary United Front (RUF),with support from the special forces of Liberian dictator Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL),intervened in Sierra Leone in an attempt to overthrow the Joseph Momoh government. The resulting civil war lasted almost 11 years,and had over 50,000,up to 70,000,casualties in total;an estimated 2.5 million people were displaced during the conflict.
Sir Albert Michael Margai was the second prime minister of Sierra Leone and the half-brother of Sir Milton Margai,the country's first Prime Minister. He was also the father of Sierra Leonean politician Charles Margai.
Port Loko is the capital of Port Loko District and since 2017 the North West Province of Sierra Leone. The city had a population of 21,961 in the 2004 census and current estimate of 44,900. Port Loko lies approximately 57 km (35 mi) north-east of Freetown. The area in and around Port Loko is a major bauxite mining and trade centre. The town lies on the main highway linking Freetown to Guinea's capital Conakry. It also lies on the over-land highway between Freetown and its major airport,Lungi International Airport,although most travellers complete this journey via the much shorter ferry or helicopter transit.
Charles Francis Kondo Margai is a Sierra Leonean politician and constitutional lawyer who served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone in 2018.
Ernest Bai Koroma is a Sierra Leonean politician who served as the fourth President of Sierra Leone from 17 September 2007 to 4 April 2018.
Abass Chernor Bundu is a Sierra Leonean politician,diplomat,and the current Speaker of the Sierra Leone House of Parliament,in office since April 25,2018. Bundu was elected speaker by receiving 70 votes in Parliament. The main opposition the All People's Congress,which won the most seats in Parliament,boycotted the election process in protest and did not nominate a candidate for speaker. Bundu is a veteran politician,and a very close ally and personal friend of Sierra Leone's president Julius Maada Bio.
Kenema District is a district in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest city is Kenema,which is the third most populous city in Sierra Leone,after Freetown and Bo. Tongo is the second most populous city in the district. Other major towns in Kenema District include Blama and Yomboma. The district is the most populous district in the Eastern province with a population 609,873. Kenema District has an area of 6,053 km2 (2,337 sq mi) and comprises sixteen chiefdoms.
Ishmael Beah is a Sierra Leonean author and human rights activist who rose to fame with his acclaimed memoir,A Long Way Gone. His novel Radiance of Tomorrow was published in January 2014. His most recent novel Little Family was published in April 2020.
Peter Louis Tucker (1927-2017),was a notable Sherbro civil servant and he was once the Chief Executive for the Commission for Racial Equality in the United Kingdom a position he had from 1976 to 1982.
Joseph Bandabla Dauda widely known as J. B. Dauda,was a Sierra Leonean politician. He was Second Vice-President of Sierra Leone,Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from November 1991 to April 1992. Later he was Minister of Finance in 2002,Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2012,and Minister of Internal Affairs from 2013 to 2016.
David Omashola Carew is a Sierra Leonean economist and politician. He is Sierra Leone's Minister of Trade and Industry. He had also served as Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone from September 2007 to February 2009.

Kaifala Marah is a Sierra Leonean politician,accountant,Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone (2016–2017),and Minister of Finance (2013–2016). On 7 March 2017,Dr. Marah resigned as governor to seek the nomination of the All People's Congress (APC) for the presidential election of 2018.

Yakama Manty Jones is a Sierra Leonean multipotentiality living this through her portfolio career. Jones is an economist,entrepreneur and philanthropist with a Ph.D. in finance and economics. She is the Director of Research and Delivery at the Sierra Leone Ministry of Finance and a Focal Person for the World Bank's Human Capital Project in Sierra Leone. In 2021,she was selected as an Amujae leader by the EJS Center. Jones has authored and co-authored multiple scholarly articles and spoken at TEDxYouth,Africa Oxford Initiative,and the World Bank.
