John Daniel Pierce Jr. (born 1972) is an American former basketball center. He is the all-time/all-division/all-gender scoring leader in college basketball history with 4,230 points. He played college basketball at Lipscomb University.
Pierce attended Franklin Road Academy. As a senior, he averaged 25.8 points and almost 10 rebounds per game, while receiving All-state and The Tennessean Metro Class A Player of the Year honors. [1]
He accepted a basketball scholarship from NAIA Lipscomb University, to play under head coach Don Meyer. [2]
Pierce was redshirted during the 1989-90 season. As a freshman, he posted 22 points and 9 rebounds in 21 minutes during his first college game. As a sophomore, he set the school single-game record with 54 points against Arkansas Baptist College.
As a junior, he was named the NAIA Player of the Year after leading the nation in scoring with an average of 31.9 points per contest. [3] He also set the school's single-game points record (54) against Arkansas Baptist College.
As a senior, he broke his former teammate and roommate Phil Hutcheson's career scoring record of 4,106 points, to become the all-time/all-division scoring leader in college basketball history with 4,230 points. [4] [5]
Pierce graduated after helping his teams compile a 129-19 record, while qualifying for the NAIA tournament all four seasons and reaching a pair of Elite Eight appearances. He scored in double figures in every game that he played, while finishing with school records in career rebounds (1,497), field goals made (1,627) and free throws made (881).
In 2003, he was inducted into the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame. His jersey number #50 was retired by the school. In 2003, he was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. In 2012, he was named to the NAIA 75th Anniversary All-Star Team. In 2015, he was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. In 2018, he was inducted into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame. [6]
In 1995, he signed with the Stirling Senators of the second-tier State Basketball League (SBL) in Australia, where he received the league's MVP award. In 1997, he signed with the Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya of the B.League in Japan. [7] He also played professional basketball in France. [2]
After his basketball career was over, he was hired as an assistant basketball coach at Brentwood Academy. In 2006, he was hired as the varsity boys' basketball head coach at his alma mater Franklin Road Academy. His teams have recorded over 300 wins and qualified for the D2A Tennessee state championship in two occasions. [8] [2]
Terry Porter is an American former college basketball coach and former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Portland. A native of Wisconsin, he played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point before being drafted 24th by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1985 NBA draft. In Portland, he played ten seasons with two All-Star Game appearances. Porter spent 17 years in the NBA as a player. Following his retirement as a player in 2002, he began coaching in the league. Porter has twice been a head coach, first with his hometown Milwaukee Bucks and then with the Phoenix Suns.
Richard Barnett is an American former basketball player who was a shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Syracuse Nationals, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. He won two NBA championships with the Knicks. Barnett was also a member of the Cleveland Pipers in the American Basketball League. He played college basketball at Tennessee A&I College. In 2024, it was announced that Barnett would be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Daniel Paul Issel is an American former professional basketball player and coach. An outstanding collegian at the University of Kentucky, Issel was twice named an All-American en route to a school-record 25.7 points per game for his career. The American Basketball Association Rookie of the Year in 1971, he was a six-time ABA All-Star and a one-time NBA All-Star.
Jack Wayne Sikma is an American former professional basketball center. He was a seven-time NBA All-Star with the Seattle SuperSonics, who drafted him in the first round with the eighth overall pick of the 1977 NBA draft. In 1979, he won an NBA championship with Seattle. Sikma finished his playing career with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.

She grew up in Atoka, Oklahoma, and first garnered national recognition during her collegiate career at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The school's team currently competes in the ASUN Conference. Previously, the Bisons played men's basketball in NCAA Division II and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Bisons made their first ever trip to the NCAA Division I tournament in school history in 2018, when they defeated Florida Gulf Coast in the 2018 ASUN men's basketball tournament. The Trevecca Trojans are the athletic teams that represent Trevecca Nazarene University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, in intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division II ranks. The Battle of the Boulevard, also referred to as the Belmont–Lipscomb basketball rivalry is a college basketball rivalry between the Belmont University Bruins and the Lipscomb University Bisons. Its nickname was established because of both school's close placement in Nashville, Tennessee– about three miles apart on the same road. The rivalry was classified as non-conference following Belmont's departure from the Atlantic Sun Conference prior to the 2012–13 NCAA Division I basketball season. Their first meeting took place on December 11, 1953. It is one of the geographically closest rivalries in NCAA Division I.

He played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Born in Gary, Indiana, Garland is the son of former professional basketball player Winston Garland. Garland attended Brentwood Academy in high school, joining the varsity basketball team in eighth grade and leaving as a four-time state champion and three-time Tennessee Mr. Basketball winner. Adam Sonn is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for the Lipscomb Bisons and Belmont Bruins. Sonn was selected as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year with the Bruins in 2003. He played professionally in Belgium, France, South Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain. Sonn became a high school basketball coach after his retirement from playing.
