The EFL Cup, currently known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an annual knockout competition in men's domestic football in England. Organised by the English Football League (EFL), it is open to any club within the top four levels of the English football league system—92 clubs in total—comprising the top-level Premier League, and the three divisions of the English Football League's own league competition.

In 2006 he was listed in 100 players who shook the Kop, a Liverpool fan poll. He made one appearance for the Scotland national team, in 1888.
John R. Settle, is an American football coach and former player who is the running backs coach for the Rice Owls. He played professionally as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). Settle attended Rockingham County High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. He played college football for the Appalachian State Mountaineers and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons, where he played from 1987 to 1990, and later for the Washington Redskins in his next two seasons where he won a Super Bowl.
John Patrick O'Neill is a former footballer who played for the Northern Ireland national team, winning 39 caps, and scoring two goals. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, he was a member of the Northern Ireland squads that played in the World Cup tournaments of 1982 and 1986. His final appearance for the national side came in their 3-0 defeat against Brazil in the 1986 tournament.

John Douglas Wright was an English professional footballer who played as a left half in the Football League for Southend United, Newcastle United and Lincoln City, where he won the Football League Third Division North title in 1951–52 and became player-coach before returning north to manage Blyth Spartans. While with Newcastle, he also made one appearance for the England national team in a 4–0 victory over Norway in 1938, aged 21 with the match played at his home ground St James' Park. His career was jeopardised by a leg injury sustained at the Battle of Dunkirk during the war but he was able to make a recovery.
