John Mueneni Shaetonhodi (born 1 May 1949) is a Namibian politician, businessperson and trade unionist. [1]

Career

Shaetonhodi worked for the Consolidated Diamond Mines, the Namibian subsidiary of De Beers, in the 1980s and became the first president of the Mineworkers Union of Namibia from 1986 to 1995. He lived and worked in the southern town of Oranjemund, where he was an activist with SWAPO during the Namibian War of Independence. He was detained without trail by the South African forces from April 1979 to January 1980 and placed under house arrest from 1980 to 1983. [1]

Political life

Shaetonhodi became a member of the National Assembly of Namibia in 1995. In that same year, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Labour and served as Acting Minister of Labour from 1997-1999 following the death of Moses ǁGaroëb. From 1999 until he left the National Assembly in 2002, he served as Deputy Minister of Works Transport and Communication. In 2001 while still in the Cabinet of Namibia, Shaetonhodi was named director of the railway parastatal TransNamib. He stayed as director of TransNamib until August 2007, when his contract was not renewed. [1]

Nandi-Ndaitwah is a member of SWAPO, Namibia's ruling party, and a long-time member of the National Assembly of Namibia. In 2017, Nandi-Ndaitwah was elected vice-president of the Swapo Party at the party's 6th Congress. She is the first woman to serve in that position.

Muhammad Mumuni Ghanaian lawyer and politician

Muhammad Mumuni is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He was reelected to Ghana's Parliament in the 7 December 2012 General Elections, when he won the Kumbungu Seat. Mumuni left parliament in 2004 when he became John Atta Mills' vice-Presidential running mate.

Moses Mague ǁGaroëb was a Namibian politician, founding member of SWAPO, and member of SWAPO's Politburo and Central Committee. During his political career, ǁGaroëb served in the Constituent Assembly of Namibia and was a Member of Parliament from the day of Namibian independence, 21 March 1990. He was appointed Minister of Labour and Human Resources in 1995, a position he held until his death.

Otto Herrigel was a Namibian businessman, and politician. He served as Namibia's first Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1992.

James Wilfred "Buddy" Wentworth was a Namibian politician. He was a member of the SWAPO fraction of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia and served as Deputy Minister in several education-related portfolios in the first, second and third National Assemblies of Namibia. At the time he retired in 2005 he was one of two longest serving Deputy Ministers of Namibia.

Vekuii Reinhard Rukoro was a Namibian lawyer, businessman, and Paramount Chief of the Herero people. He also served in Namibia's Parliament from 1989 to 2000 and, in Cabinet, as Attorney General of Namibia from 1995 to 2000. Rukoro died on 18 June 2021, of COVID-19.
