The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Coyotes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the West Division. The team first played at America West Arena in downtown Phoenix, before moving to Glendale's Gila River Arena in 2003. Starting in the 2021–22 NHL season, the Coyotes are scheduled to return to the Central Division for the first time since the 1997-98 season when the Seattle Kraken joins the league.

It is located 106 km southeast of Nikumaroro, at 05°34′S173°51′W, and has a least depth of 1.8 meters. It is reported to be approximately 1.5 km in length. The sea occasionally breaks over it.

Wellington Phoenix Football Club is a professional football club based in Wellington, New Zealand. It competes in the Australian A-League, under licence from Football Federation Australia. Phoenix entered the competition in the 2007–08 season after its formation in March 2007, by New Zealand Football to replace New Zealand Knights as a New Zealand-based club in the Australian A-League competition. The club is one of the few clubs in the world to compete in a league of a different confederation (AFC) from that of the country where it is based (OFC).

John "Johnny" Hammond was an English rugby union forward who, although not capped for England, was part of three British Lions tours, all to South Africa. He gained three caps during the 1891 tour to South Africa and captained the 1896 tour, winning another two test caps. Although not part of the 1899 tour to Australia, he was made the manager of the 1903 tour. Despite captaining the British Isles, Hammond never represented England.

The season was started on 28 December 2020 and scheduled to conclude no later than 30 June 2021. The start of the season is later than previous seasons as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and New Zealand, as well as part of a gradual shift to move the competition from summer to winter. Wellington Phoenix will play their home matches on Australian soil due to travel restrictions.
