John Yakubu is a former chairman of Esan North-East local government area. [1] He was the running mate of Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the People's Democratic Party nominee in the 2016 Edo State gubernatorial election. [2] [3]

Idoa is an Esan community in Edo, Nigeria. The city, an Esan tribe, stretches through the highlands and plains of central Edo State. It is 120 kilometres north of Benin City, the capital of Edo State, having boundaries with Ekpoma in the west, Ukhun in the south, Ewu in the east and Agbede in the north. Residents are mainly farmers and grow crops, including yams, rice, cassava, taro and cocoa. The city of Idoa is currently made up of the following five clans: Afuku-N'Edo, Afokolo, Atologua, Ubi and Ofie.

Edo Central Senatorial District in Edo State covers five local governments areas which include Esan South-East, Igueben, Esan North East, Esan West and Esan Central. The current representative of the Edo Central is Clifford Ordia of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The 2020 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred on September 19, 2020. Incumbent PDP Governor Godwin Obaseki won re-election for a second term, defeating APC Osagie Ize-Iyamu and several minor party candidates. Obaseki received 57.3% of the vote.

The 2012 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on July 14, 2012. The ACN nominee Adams Oshiomhole won for a second term, defeating Charles Airhiavbere of the PDP.

The 2003 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred on the 19th of April, 2003. Incumbent Governor PDP's Lucky Igbinedion won election for a second term, defeating ANPP's Roland Owie and three other candidates.

The 2020 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held on 19 September 2020, in Edo State, and 10 October 2020, in Ondo State. The last regular gubernatorial elections for both states were in 2016. The All Progressives Congress' Rotimi Akeredolu was defending the Governor's office of Ondo while APC-turned-PDP Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki was defending his office. Both won reelection, leading to no net change in terms of overall party control of governorships.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Edo State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Edo State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
