The Joint Civilian ServiceCommendation Medal (JSCM) is a civilian service award of under the authority of the combatant commands and heads of joint organizations. [1]
This award is granted to any civilian employee of the Joint Staff, combatant commands, joint organizations reporting to or through the CJCS, or any other employee designated by the CJCS for service that is commendable and does not meet the level required for the JMCSM.
The award cannot be received in conjunction with a Secretary of Defense award for the same service. The service or actions should have lasting impact on the program or mission. The time requirement should be a tour or station of three to five years or a deployment of at least a year.
The award is a 24 karat gold plated octagonal medal with the Department of defense seal (eagle clutching arrows with an American shield in foreground) in front of two crossed swords and two vertical swords. [2] The medal is suspended from a white ribbon with three dashed purple pin stripes in the center and wide light blue stripes edged in yellow on either side.
