Jonas Umbach, painter, designer, and engraver, was born at Augsburg about 1624. He was cabinet painter to the Bishop of Augsburg, and produced many landscapes with cattle, also kitchen pieces, feathered game, and a few historical subjects in chiaroscuro. He also etched 230 plates of biblical, historical, and mythological scenes and landscapes. Among these there are:

There was a younger Jonas Umbach, but there are no particulars respecting him, except that he drew portraits.

Alexandre Desgoffe

Alexandre Desgoffe (1805–1882) was a French landscape painter born in Paris. He studied under Ingres, and travelled in Italy from 1837 to 1842. He usually introduced into his landscapes historical or mythological incidents, and he also painted some Biblical subjects. The Luxembourg Gallery has his Fury of Orestes, and the Museum of Lyons his Cyclops. He decorated the Salle des Etudes of the Bibliothèque Nationale in 1868. He died in Paris in 1882.

Johann Jakob Dorner the Elder

Johann Jakob Dorner the Elder (1741–1813), who was born at Ehrenstetten, near Freiburg in Breisgau, was a painter of historical and genre subjects. He was at first a pupil of Rösch at Freiburg and of Ignaz Bauer at Augsburg. He afterwards visited Italy, the Netherlands, and Paris. He was a professor and director of the Gallery at Munich in 1770, and died in that city in 1813. In the Darmstadt Gallery is a picture of Two Soldiers and a Maiden by him; and in the Pinakothek at Munich, a Linen Draper, which is a portrait of his wife, dated 1775.

Georg Christoph Eimmart German draughtsman and engraver

Georg Christoph Eimmart the Younger, a German draughtsman and engraver, was born at Ratisbon. He was instructed by his father, Georg Christoph Eimart the Elder (1603-1658), who was also an engraver, a painter of portraits, landscapes, still-life, and historical subjects. He studied at the University of Jena from 1654-1658. Eimmart the Younger resided at Nuremberg, where he died in 1705. He engraved some plates for Sandrart's Academia, and some small etchings of ruins, buildings, and vases, ornamented with figures, which have considerable merit. He was also a mathematician and astronomer, and published in 1701 Iconographia nova contemplationum de Sole.

Hans Ulrich Franck, a German historical painter and etcher, was born at Kaufbeuren, in Swabia, in 1603. He resided chiefly at Augsburg, where he died in 1675. His son Franz Friedrich Franck was an artist as well. Among other engravings the following are by him:

Jan Baptist Francken was supposed to be a painter from the Francken family and/or the son of Sebastian Vrancx, but is now considered to have been an error and to have never existed. The confusion was created by the many painters named Francken, some poor attributions, and a portrait by Anthony van Dyck of a certain Johannes Baptist Franck, aged 32, of whom nothing more is known. He is sometimes said to be the same as Hans Francken, another obscure member of the same family.
