Freestyle music, also called Latin freestyle or (initially) Latin hip hop, is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area and Philadelphia, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s. The Maldives competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, from 25 July to 9 August 1992. The delegation's participation in the Barcelona Olympics marked the Maldives' second appearance at the Summer Olympics since their debut at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Seven athletes competed across two sports; Ahmed Shageef, Mohamed Amir, Hussain Riyaz, Hussein Haleem and Aminath Rishtha in track and field, and Ahmed Imthiyaz and Mohamed Rasheed in swimming. None of the track or swimming athletes advanced past the first round in their events, and no Maldivian has won a medal in any events.

Manuela Stellmach is a former freestyle swimmer from East Germany, who was a member of the women's relay team that won the gold medal in the 4×100 m freestyle relay at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. At the same tournament she captured the bronze medal in the individual 200 m freestyle. Four years later, when Barcelona, Spain hosted the Summer Olympics, Stellmach ended up third (bronze) with the women's relay team from the Unified Germany.

Mongolia competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9–25, 2018. Mongolia's team consisted of two cross-country skiers. This marked the fourth straight Winter Olympics the nation had sent two cross-country skiers, which were Batmönkhiin Achbadrakh and Chinbatyn Otgontsetseg. The delegation's best finish in any event was 73rd by Otgontsetseg in the women’s 10 kilometer freestyle.
Jonathan Atsu is a French swimmer. He competed in the men's 200 metre freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
