Jonathan Yim is a professional basketball coach currently coaching the Southland Sharks of the National Basketball League (New Zealand). [1]
Jonathan Yim began his coaching journey with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2011–2012 NBA season, working as a Video Intern. The following year, he joined the Portland Trail Blazers, where he served as the team's Head Video Coordinator from 2012 to 2016. In this role, he was responsible for analyzing game footage, developing scouting reports, and assisting the coaching staff with strategy implementation [2] [3]
In 2016, Yim was promoted to Player Development Coach for the Trail Blazers, working closely with players to enhance their individual skills. He contributed to the development of key players, including Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, and helped the team reach multiple NBA playoff appearances during his tenure.
After nearly a decade in the NBA, Yim transitioned to the NBA G League, joining the South Bay Lakers as an Assistant Coach in 2021. He remained with the team for two seasons before moving to the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets' G League affiliate, for the 2023–2024 season [4]
In November 2024, Yim was appointed as the head coach of the Southland Sharks, a professional team in the National Basketball League (New Zealand). This marks his first head coaching role at the professional level, bringing over a decade of experience from the NBA and G League to the team. [5]
