Jordi Juvanteny (born 6 April 1960) is a Spanish rally raid driver who specializes in the truck category.

Juvanteny has 32 participations in the Dakar Rally, and from 1995 to 2021, he participated with the Andalusian José Luis Criado as co-pilot (resuming the partnership in 2023), who with 33 participations [1] [2] is the Spaniard with the most presences in the Dakar Rally, surpassing in one participation to Xavi Foj and Juvanteny himself, and two participations to Rafa Tibau Sr. He is the winner of the 2024 Dakar Rally in the Mission 1000 category.

Career

Juvanteny first participated in the Dakar Rally in 1991. Juvanteny and Criado have 16 victories in the 6x6 category and 4 victories in Production (series trucks). [3] In 2023, they participated with a truck partially powered by hydrogen, becoming the first hydrogen-powered truck to finish the Dakar Rally. [4] [5] [6] Juvanteny returned to the Dakar Rally in 2024 alongside Criado and Xavier Ribas, this time in the Mission 1000 category. [7] With this category, he won his first stage in the third stage. [8] Having held the overall lead from then on, Juvanteny became the inaugural event winner in the Mission 1000 category. [9] [10]

The 1985 Giro d'Italia was the 68th running of the Giro. A total of 180 riders from twenty teams entered the 22-stage race, that was won by Frenchman Bernard Hinault of the La Vie Claire team. The second and third places were taken by Italian Francesco Moser and American Greg LeMond, respectively.

The 28th Edition Vuelta a España, a long-distance bicycle stage race and one of the 3 grand tours, was held from April 26 to May 13, 1973. It consisted of 17 stages covering a total of 3,061 km, and was won by Eddy Merckx of the Molteni cycling team. As Merckx had already won several editions of the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia with his win in the Vuelta, he became the third cyclist after Jacques Anquetil and Felice Gimondi to win all three grand tours in his career. Merckx went on to win the 1973 Giro d'Italia and became the first cyclist to win the Vuelta-Giro double. Merckx also won the points classification and José Luis Abilleira won the mountains classification. With Merckx finishing first, Ocaña second and Thévenet third the podium of the 1973 Vuelta contained one previous winner and two future winners of the Tour de France making it one of the best podiums in the history of the race, according to the official race website. Merckx won six stages in this edition and Gerben Karstens won four.

Fina Román is a Spanish off-road racing codriver and navigator. She is married with the off road racing driver Josep María Serviá, who is the main reason why she started to compete, since he was attendant to the Dakar Rally in the 90s. Román started in the Schlesser Team, participating in assistance vehicles. Besides an assistant, she has also competed in car and trucks categories. Then, she moved in 2006 to official competition, as a navigator in the KH7-Epsilon Team, in the 6x6 trucks category, together with driver Jordi Juvanteny and co-driver José Luis Criado.

The 2021 Dakar Rally was a rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia and the 43rd edition of the Dakar Rally. The event was held for 14 days, starting from 3 January and ended 15 January 2021. It was the second time Saudi Arabia had hosted the event, with support from the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation. The race started and ended in Jeddah, allowing the competitors to venture through the desert and alongside the Red Sea. The route consists of one prologue stage and 12 normal stages, with one rest day in Ha'il on 9 January. The rally was originally intended to run through 2–3 additional countries, with Egypt and Jordan being rumoured likely candidates. However, due to travel and border restrictions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the route stayed entirely within Saudi Arabian territory.

Cristina Gutiérrez Herrero is a Spanish dentist and rally raid driver. She became the first Spanish female car driver to finish the Dakar Rally in 2017 before winning the event in the T3 category in 2024. In 2023 Dakar Rally she finished in 4th position after having many issues in the first week that prevented her from fighting for the victory. Nonetheless, she won the prologue of the Dakar Rally and the last stage which allowed her to finish in 4th position. Cristina currently has 3 stage victories in the T3 category of the Dakar Rally.

The 2022 Dakar Rally was a rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia and the 44th edition of the Dakar Rally organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO). The event took place between 1–14 January 2022. This was the third time Saudi Arabia had hosted the event, with support from the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation. The race started in Ha'il and ended in Jeddah, going through canyons and cliffs in the Neom region, passing by the Red Sea coastline, into the stretches of dunes surrounding Riyadh, with a lot more action on sand dunes in the Empty Quarter. The route consisted of one prologue stage and 12 normal stages, with one rest day in Riyadh on 8 January.
