Jordi Viljoen (born 14 October 2003) is a New Zealand rugby union player, who plays for the Hurricanes and Manawatu. His preferred position is halfback. [1]

Early career

Viljoen was born in Pretoria, South Africa, but relocated to New Zealand as a child. He is the son of former Stormers player Joggie Viljoen Jnr. and grandson of former Springbok Joggie Viljoen Snr.. [2] Viljoen attended Palmerston North Boys' High School and Hasting Boys High School, where he was selected for New Zealand Schools. [3] He represented New Zealand U20 in 2023. [4]

Professional career

Viljoen has represented Manawatu in the National Provincial Championship since 2023, being named in their full squad for the 2023 Bunnings NPC. [5] He was called into the Hurricanes squad ahead of Round 1 of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season, making his debut against the Force. [6]

The New Zealand national under-20 rugby union team, nicknamed the Baby Blacks, is the representative rugby union team from New Zealand. It replaced the two former age grade teams: the under-19s and the under-21s. Their first tournament was the 2008 IRB Junior World Championship, which they won after defeating England 38–3 in the final. They have gone on to also win the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2017. The team also competes in the Oceania U20 Championship as of 2015. The New Zealand under-20s have been nicknamed the "Baby Blacks" after the youthful All Blacks side which played in 1986.

Josh Bradnock was an exciting addition to 2009 Hurricanes squad by adding depth and enthusiasm to the loose forward stocks. However, injury severely limited his first season and eventually forced his early retirement from the game.
